Does taking anti-coagulants affect having dental implants?

Question

75 yr old female. Need to take anticoagulants (ASA and Plavix) for insertion of stent in Right carotid artery. Also need to schedule 2 dental implants lower right. Any restrictions or precautions we need to know about??

Taking anti-coagulants will be a concern. I would suggest seeing a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who does lots of implants. Many of them also have M.D. degrees. Have them do a complete exam and consultation and see what they think your options are.

the use of anticoagulants makes implant surgery difficult due to bleeding, so pay attention to stent placement to preserve your life.After this situation is stable and your cardiologist, authorize you to suspend anticoagulants for a while, then plan your surgery for placement of implants.The communication between Doctors is always necessary.
