Well that depends. If you didn't follow your surgeons instructions and tried to eat a bunch of food the day after having a gastric bypass, you could tear the staple or suture line and create a leak which could be life threatening. Thankfully most people don't do that. However, if you are a few months or years out from surgery and overeat, you are more likely to just stretch out your pouch rather than tearing open your pouch (although there are cases of that occurring). The bottom line is, don't overeat after having a gastric bypass.
