When consulting a cosmetic dentist as an alternative to ortho, what topics should the patient expect the dentist to cover?

Before committing to ortho, I want to rule out that cosmetic dentistry might give me a less comprehensive but still acceptable alternative. I have a cross bite and crowding on both arches. What should I ask the cosmetic dentist? What kinds of aesthetic solutions should I expect a consultant to discuss...just veneers, resin composites, or more? If I'm not a candidate for a cosmetic solution, should the dentist fully explain why not? I want to be prepared for the consultation. Thanks in advance.
