Bodybuilding Supplements and Nose Job?

It is great you are being conservative and covering all of the bases prior to having rhinoplasty. There are a number of supplements that should be avoided. The herbal and weight loss supplements to avoid include but are not limited to echinacea, gingko biloba, and ginseng. It is also important to avoid Ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and NSAIDS prior to and following surgery, which may increase bleeding. The total list is rather large in size, and I would recommend checking with your surgeon regarding his/her specific guidelines. The protein shakes are ok, but you may want to avoid the creatine until after you recover. I recommend refraining from participation in any intense physical activity for at least 4-5 weeks following surgery. Not doing so can increase swelling and delay your healing time. I have my patients stop taking supplements, aspirin containing medications and herbal remedies three weeks prior to their scheduled procedures. This is important as many of the items listed cause increased bleeding which adds to difficulty during the procedure as well as post operative swelling and bruising. I do a lot of male Rhinoplasty procedures and this is a question asked a lot. For body building I prefer my patient's to stop for three weeks post surgery and then I will see them during follow up and clear them for specific activities. Best regards!
