Kybella and Buccal fat Pads

At this point in time Kybella is NOT approved to inject into the buccal fat pads. Because it will affect fat, muscles and even nerves, it is approved for treatment of the superficial fat under the chin. Swelling under the chin can last fro a couple of weeks. Most people begin to notice some improvement after a few weeks, with results improving up to several months.

Kybella Swelling -- FDA approved for Submental Fat, Non Surgical Option But Still New

It takes at least 3-6 treatments to see a formal result that is close to optimal .  I suggest seeing an expert and continuing treatments if you are not considering surgery.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Kybella treatments

At this point in time Kybella is NOT approved to inject into the buccal fat pads. It is approved for treatment of the superficial fat under the chin, all other usage is considered off-label and there is limited information about treatment response to these areas.

The results from treating submental neck fat typically start to show 1-2 months after treatment, and continue to improve for 3-5 months after treatment. It first appears to improve on both sides of the neck, below the jowls. The fat under the chin is the slowest to keep improving. The total number of treatments needed vary between each individual patient. Some people only need one treatment session; others may need four! We take photographs 1-2 months after the first treatment to assess the results. At that point more treatments can be performed if desired.  Best of luck to you.

Kybella results

Thank you for your question esjay. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatment for the double chin. I have not used Kybella in any area other than the double chin. When used in this area I find that at least 2 treatments are required to see visible improvement. I space treatments every 3 months. We take photographs 3 months after the second treatment to assess the results. At that point more treatments can be performed if further enhancement is desired. Patience is important.

Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Kybella & Buccal Fat

Since Kybella isn't FDA approved for treating the buccal fat pads, it's hard to say how that are will react. With the chin, it generally takes 4-6 weeks to see results but it also takes between 2 and 4 treatments.

 Thank you for your question. Most people begin to see results 4-6 weeks post treatment. However, you need at least 2 to 3 sessions for optimal results.

Thank you for your question in regards to Kybella.
To be sure, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Kybella not approved to treat Buccal fat pads

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}
Kybella is not approved to treat the buccal fat pads. In fact, it is only FDA approved to treat the submental area(under the chin). When I treat the submental region, I always tell my patients that it will take at least 2-3 treatments before they start appreciating any noticeable results. Be cautious about doing this treatment in off label areas as it has not been studied and you are at risk for increased complications.

Thanks for your question. The plan of treatment will be discussed during consultation. During consultation, you and your provider will discuss the number of Kybella treatments, goals and expectations, and post-treatment care. Two to four treatments are recommended for optimal results.

Treatment of the Buccal fat pad is off-label, therefore we do not have studies to refer to for answers to your questions.  This being said, when treating the submental fat pad results after a session can take eight weeks to be seen.  Also, full results usually take between two and four sessions.  It is possible that the Buccal fat pad will react in a similar fashion.  You should go back to your injector for an evaluation if you have any questions.
