The best way is to look at the surgeon's website. This will give you a good example of his/her work regardless of certifications. Then you can check the surgeon's patient testimonials and credentials. You can also ask to speak to the surgeon's former patients. Lastly, consult with the surgeon and try to get a feel if you trust him/her. See more than oneĀ  surgeon.

Selecting a rhinoplasty surgeon will be the most difficult part of your surgery. Find an experienced surgeon whose results you like. Talk to the surgeon, look at the results in patients who had noses that look like yours, and talk to and see those patients.

Hello Jay Box,
Deciding on rhinoplasty can be quite the daunting task.  Rhinoplasty surgery is considered to be the most difficult cosmetic surgery procedure.  Many surgeons perform rhinoplasty, but only a few perform is well.  A surgeon's speciality training, such as an Aesthetic Surgery fellowship or a Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship, provides them with high level training in rhinoplasty surgery.  It is important to know if they are involved in continuing education and development with regards to their rhinoplasty practice.  Writing and lecturing in the field of rhinoplasty is also helpful to understanding the importance of rhinoplasty procedures in their practice.  A careful look at their Before and After gallery can help you understand their aesthetic eye.  You should ask them about their revision rates.  In the US, the revision rate for primary rhinoplasty is around 25-30 percent.  A surgeon whose rate is much lower than this probably knows what they are doing.  A consultation with a rhinoplasty specialist, possibly with rhinoplasty simulations, will help you understand what you can and should expect from your surgery.
Hope this helps.\

Finding the best rhinoplasty surgeon for you

The best rhinoplasty surgeons are often located in large metropolitan cities within the United States.  Look for a surgeon who is board certified in ear, nose, and throat surgery as well as in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.  The surgeon should have performed thousands of rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty surgeries and dedicated their practice and career to the field of rhinoplasty.  An extensive portfolio of before and after photographs is also important.  The rhinoplasty surgeon should also have an academic affiliation and it is equally important to make sure that the surgery is done in a certified and licensed ambulatory surgery center.  A board certified physician anesthesiologist should be present to administer general anesthesia for the procedure.

First, ensure that the plastic surgeons you're evaluating are board-certified. This is a reassurance to you that they have the proper background training. You then want to be sure they have the aesthetic skill to produce natural results. Look at photographs of their work and talk with former patients to be sure they're satisfied. It's equally as important that you meet him or her in person to get a feel for their bedside manner. During this meeting you'll have the opportunity to talk about the results you're trying to achieve. Your plastic surgeon should tell you what is realistically possible, given your bone structure and other factors, and should explain the procedure in detail.

I recommend meeting with more than one plastic surgeon to ensure you select one that best meets your needs.

Good luck!

IMHO it's best to choose a surgeon for Rhinoplasty or any plastic and cosmetic surgery procedure based upon their ability to understand and follow the proper aesthetics of facial (and in this case nasal) beauty for the creation of a naturally more attractive nose and face.  Since Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery's primary goal is to make one look more youthful and atrractive, shouldn't that be the focus of how they are selected?
