Is fat replacement in an eyelid surgery better than removing the fat?

Can fat replacement be done from the inside of the eyes for an eyelid surgery?

Fat replacement

The method of a lower blepharoplasty is completely dependent on your anatomy. Some patients are great candidates for just removing fat from the lower lids, while others would benefit from fat trasposition or moving the fat, and yet others are better treated with fat removal with fat grafting. Again, it's completely up to your anatomy. See someone who is an expert at eyelid surgery.

Fat removal for eyelid surgery

In our practice for the last 25 years, we have performed a conservative fat removal through trans-conjunctival approach to rejuvenate the lower lids. For multiple reasons we do not recommend fat replacement in the eyelids. For more information and many examples, please see the link and the video below

Can fat replacement be done from the inside of the eyes for an eyelid surgery?

There are many ways do do eyelid surgery because different patients have different problems with eyelid appearance. So the answer to your question is yes, but whether or not that is suitable for your lids would require an examination.Be sure to see a highly experienced surgeon who does not just do cookie cutter surgery but varies techniques based on patient need and anatomy.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery): removing fat and adding fat

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is performed to improve the shape, symmetry, or position of the eyelids.

A traditional aspect of this surgery is removing fat pads in the eye socket that bulge and give the eyes an aged appearance. The benefit is a smoother contour. Overtime, the eyes may start to look flattened or even sunken-in. This hollow appearance may be treated by adding fat to the area around (outside) the eye. Some surgeons may reposition the fat to keep the volume but improve the contours/shadows.

My personal philosophy is adding fat for a more youthful and softer appearance. It's also a very safe technique.

To inject fat or to remove fat:that is the question

Fat grafting is a fantastic procedure for the right person. Without seeing pictures of your eyes it is hard to predict if you are better off removing fat or adding fat to your eyes. Fat is used for augmentation and improvement of the eye when people look tired and have indentation underneath the eye. Fat on the other hand may be removed in order to make someone look less tired if they have excessive amount of fat under the eyes. Best way to determine what you need is to see a facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon or ophthalmologist.
