An Unwanted Double Chin - Houston, TX

Looking at pictures I was tired of seeing my double chin. With other options available on I decided to do Coolsculpting considering the fewer side effects for the sub mental. Pros: The treatment took two hours. No one was able to tell I had anything done because the swelling was non existent. Cons: Pain is intense at first. In all fairness I was comfortable about 10 minutes after the...

Not Enough Botox?

I had Botox injections for the 11's between my eyes. I thought I was looking angry even when I was happy.I was very pleased with the results. Hardly any pain, just a little redness and a bit of swelling that was gone in a couple of hours. Very satisfied and will have procedure again.I noticed that when I tried to raise my eyebrows only the outer part raised up. Looked like Mr. Spock or...

Juvederm for Undereye Hollows--don't Be Afraid to Do It if You Have the Right MD

I was very nervous after seeing the pictures and hearing the horror stories about fillers under the eyes, but I've had these dark circles all my life and was ready to try anything. If you have a great doctor (mine trains other doctors how to do it), then absolutely don't hesitate to do it. I had only one syringe because I was a nervous, but I think I could have done two. My circles are not...

Not Worth It and Very Painful - Houston, TX

Wasted over $3000, very painful, and really I do not see any difference after 3 months. AND, here is the clincher, I never ever saw a doctor. Dr. Suzanne Bruce. I just wanted a bit of tightening, I am 59 and look "good" for my age anyway, I really see no difference whatsoever after 3 months. Save your money and go somewhere you can actually meet with a doctor.

Q: I had Botox for the first time, zero effect at 7 days. Does that mean I'm unlikely to see anything happen from now?
Answered by Dr. CouvillionMay 23, 2019

A: Botox often takes up to 2 weeks to have full effect, though often patients will begin to see some changes at 1 week.  You may be not seeing enough of a change due to the dosage that you received.  This area is often treated with 20 or more units, so 15 units is a low dose.

Also, you didn't indicate whether you were male or female in your post.  Men also often require an even higher dose, as they usually have increased muscle mass versus women.

I recommend waiting until the 2 week mark and if you are still unhappy with your result, go talk to your injector.

Q: If I get Botox just in my elevens will it cause the rest of my forehead to wrinkle more to compensate the paralyzed 11s?
Answered by Dr. CouvillionMarch 25, 2019

A: Botox in the area of the 11's (the glabella) should not cause an increase in wrinkles in another location.  The Botox, if applied correctly, should effect the muscles that are only responsible for the 11 lines.  There is always a little bit of overlap onto the muscles that cause forehead lines, but this would serve to decrease these wrinkles, not increase them!

Q: What is the most efficient scar removal for laparoscopy incision scars?
Answered by Dr. CouvillionMarch 19, 2019

A: Any violation of the skin is going to leave a scar and there is no way to completely avoid this.  There are definitely ways to improve the healing process and/or start over under ideal conditions.

After a wound heals, the scar continues to remodel and change for months.  There are many treatments to improve the character of scars during the healing/remodeling process - lotions, silicone sheeting, and sun avoidance to name a few.

If the scars are mature and are still pigmented and unsightly, a laser treatment may be appropriate to lighten the color of the scar.  Another option would be a scar revision by a qualified surgeon with the specific goal of starting the process all over again and using the treatments I listed above while this is healing.

Q: I have these fine lines under my eyes just above cheek bone. (photo)
Answered by Dr. BruceJuly 13, 2016

A: Good question! Lines like these can have a number of causes, including sun damage. Based on your photo, I think you may get good results from laser resurfacing or even a strong chemical peel. Some filler or BOTOX treatments may also help, especially in tandem with resurfacing procedures. As always, be sure you're wearing plenty of sunscreen during the day to keep these lines from getting worse. See a board-certified dermatologist for a more thorough review of your options.

Q: Can Botox or a filler raise the brow 4-5 mm?
Answered by Dr. BruceJuly 13, 2016

A: It really depends on your own personal anatomy. It's theoretically possible to achieve a more significant lift without surgery, but this approach may not be the best for every patient. It's important to have a consultation with a highly experienced injector, preferably a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. You may get better results by using BOTOX Cosmetic in conjunction with a dermal filler, which can contribute to a lifting effect.
