A The lifespan of a platelet is about 7 days. I recommend waiting 7 days before electively exposing yourself to anything that effects your platelets - this includes blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil, herbal supplements such as ginger, garlic, ginseng, ginkgo, and alcohol. With PRP, its' the alpha granules that contain growth factors that stimulate the production of more collagen and elastin. When PRP is injected into the face, you want to optimize everything you can the week before and after the procedure. Regenerative medicine relies on a healthy host. With that being said, it's important to note that if blood thinners or aspirin are needed for medical treatment, they should NOT be stopped before or after PRP injections without explicit discussion with your provider. In the event one is taking a blood thinner or aspirin for medical condition/s, it's possible PRP is not worth pursuing as the platelet count and quality of the PRP will be reduced. At that point, the risk benefit ratio must be considered.
