I have wanted lip fillers for a long time as I have always felt that I do not have any top lip, particularly at the sides. The main reason I decided to have my lips filled is that I have always hated my nose and feel that my nose looks even bigger compared to my small, thin lips. I felt that if my lips were bigger it would help balance my features. I am booked in for a rhinoplasty in July but wanted my lips done in the meantime. I arrived in Liverpool yesterday morning for the procedure which was scheduled for 10am. The nurse was very welcoming and made me feel relaxed and comfortable straight away. He asked me some questions about how long I had wanted lip fillers for, did I have any allergies, etc. I felt at ease. He looked at my teeth as he explained that the shape of your teeth can affect how your lips turn out. The nurse then put some white, creamy aesthetic on my lips and told me to try not to lick my lips or I would have a numb tongue. The aesthetic felt quite strange and as I could feel it working I started to become a little bit more aware of what was going to happen. I am a massive baby when it comes to things like needles and although I was trying to be brave, and probably didn't show any nerves, on the inside I was starting to feel a tiny bit light-headed! I was worried about my lips going numb and then slobbering or something embarrassing but I think actually I was alright. The nurse explained more to me about what was going to happen and gave me some more information about what Juvederm is and how it would work. I tried not to talk too much incase I licked my lips accidently and got cream on my tongue. I was worried about how long any swelling or bruising would last for and he reassured me this would be gone in about 2-3 days if it happened, but said that not many of his patients had bruising. After letting the aesthetic cream soak in for about 20-30 mins he wiped it off with some tissue and then asked me to sit in the chair. I could still feel my lips but they were a little bit numbed. I started to feel nervous when he asked me to get into the chair because then I knew the needle was coming! The first time the needle went in it was fine and I hardly felt anything. He filled in a vermillion border first as he said this would give me a pout which was what I had asked for. It really stung at the top, middle of my lips and brought tears to my eyes. However, it only lasted a few seconds and started to numb as the gel went in because, as the nurse explained, the gel contains some more numbing agent. The nurse was wiping my lips with tissue afterwards and I could see blood on the tissue. I was worried about the bleeding carrying on all day but he said he wouldn't let me go until it stopped. I was relieved about this as I didn't want to walk through the city with swollen AND bleeding lips. I was injected with a full 1ml syringe of Juvederm. At the end there was still a tiny bit left in the syringe but the nurse said it looked like I had enough already and that if we chased it too much my lips would look unnatural or the product wouldn't work properly, as this was my first time having fillers. He gave me a card which said on it exactly what I had been injected with and how much I'd had. He told me to get in touch with him straight away if I had any effects or queries. I had hardly any pain and drove myself home safely. I started to get pain about 4 hours later. My lips were really stinging. I had been advised only to take paracetamol which I took 2 of every 4 hours. I didn't really feel like this was helping so I also put an ice pack on for about 20-30 mins. They were stinging all day for the rest of the day and I also felt really tired. I just relaxed on the sofa for the rest of the day and was glad I didn't have anything planned. I also went to bed quite early at night and slept almost straight away because I felt so exhausted.
