QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Tretinoin (Retin-A) Moisturizer? Looking for a good non-irritating daily moisturizer.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Hi!  Thank you for your question.  You are definitely on the right track to great skin using a Retin-A every day!  It can, as you mentioned, be a bit drying causing the need for a good moisturizer.  There are a couple that we recommend to our patients at our Practice.  Depending on the type of moisturizer you are looking for:

Revision Intellishade - These are tinted moisturizers with an SPF 45.  It comes in an Original and a Matte finish for oilier or more dry skin.  They also contain multiple peptides, anti-aging, and skin brightening properties.  Revision has also recently released their Intellishade TruPhysical which is still tinted with an SPF 45 - but it is a 100% mineral sunscreen.  This is perfect for patients with sensitive skin!

Revision Multi-Protection SPF 50 - Contrary to what one may think because of the name, this is actually a moisturizer and not just a sunscreen.  It provides all of the same benefits as the Intellishade Original and Matte, but without the tint!

SkinMedica Ceramide Treatment Cream - This product is a little more moisturizing than Revision's Intellishade products and contains peptides and ceramides that help to promote and maintain hydration in the skin.

Although you mentioned price is not a concern, none of these products are overly pricey!

Swelling and unnaturalness 7 weeks after septoplasty. Will this feeling go away?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Hi!  Thank you for your question.

Yes, still having significant swelling seven weeks out from a Septoplasty is very normal.  Remember that each side for your nose will not heal at the same rate, which is why the left side may still be more swollen than the right.  You may also still feel numbness and tingling in your nose at this point.  It can take up to a year for swelling in the nose to completely subside.  The unnatural feeling will decrease with time, as well.  I would say that at about three months post-op patients start to feel a bit more "normal."  Remember though, everyone heals at a different rate so these are just estimates of time. Continue your scheduled post-operative appointments with your surgeon and best of luck in the healing process!

I am trying to choose between a chemical peel and a fractional laser treatment.

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Hi!  Both of these treatments are great options to address your under eye concerns.  The main difference is that the chemical peel will address your concerns a bit more superficially than a fractional laser.  A chemical peel will offer resurfacing of the top to mid- (depending on the strength of the peel) layers of the skin - improving skin tone, texture, and fine lines/wrinkles.   A fractional laser treatment will achieve all of the above results but will also stimulate collagen growth - providing immediate results but those will continue to improve for about three months post-treatment, making a fractional treatment a gift that keeps on giving!  Don't forget that you will have at least a week of downtime (maybe more depending on the intensity of the peel or fractional laser treatment) and to always protect your skin by using a good physical sunscreen!  Best of luck in your treatment decision!

Can I swim and wear a bikini top at 4.5 weeks (1 month) after breast augmentation? (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Hi!  As stated by other physicians, I would recommend checking with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon on what his or her specific post-operative instructions are as they do vary.  In our Practice, we tell patients to wait 4-6 weeks before submerging into water but only if their incisions are fully healed.  Also, do not forget to wear your sunscreen while in your bikini top(s) - the sun can be a scar's worst enemy!

Breast Augmentation for small asymmetrical breasts?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hello,
Thank you for your question and photo. You have a couple options for your breasts depending on what your goals are. By placing in two different size implants you may be able to achieve volume symmetry; however, the breasts will look the same just be larger and closer to the same volume. Patients that present themselves in our practice recommendation is to perform an augmentation for both breasts most likely using two different size implants. Performing a lift on the right breast and reducing the size of the aerola. This will allow for symmetry in volume and appearance of breasts. Wishing you the best.Dr. C

Getting rid of eye bags at last

I always hated my eyebags since I was a kid… everyone seems to think I don’t get enough sleep. Since I’m at a point in my life that I can work from home, kids that aren’t toddlers anymore and can afford the cost, I decided to finally do it. I did some research and consulted with Dr Connors since he’s very experienced and one of the best in town. I decided to share my experience if anyone else is thinking about doing this. Updated on 3 Sep 2022: Feeling dizzy with the medications, no pain. Spent most of the day sleeping. It’s hard to watch tv or look at my phone since I can barely keep my eyes open. The nurse called in to check on me, and everything seems to be going well so far. Updated on 3 Sep 2022: My face feels tight and a bit swollen. Cold compresses help during the day. I stopped taking pain meds since I don’t really feel any pain. Been back to my normal diet and just taking it easy with light activity. I’m so excited to see the results after the initial swelling goes down! Updated on 4 Sep 2022: I now have some bruising under one eye, but less swollen overall. I’m not feeling 100% better yet since I tend to sleep more, but am able to take it easy around the house and going out. Planning to go and get some errands done, and finish laundry. Updated on 9 Sep 2022: My eyes definitely look a bit better now… Good things: - I’m back to driving, doing regular activities such as doing chores and working from home, as long as it’s not physically straining. - I can take showers but not let water run over my eyes. This is a bit challenging to do, but avoiding water on the eyes is a must! Cause it hurts if you do! The not so good: - Still a bit teary-eyed every now and then. I keep a cold compress with me at all times and use it on occasion when I find that I’m getting some irritation. - Sleeping on my back and in an angle is not that easy but is also a must. I still wake up with crusty bits on my eyes due to tears drying up. Updated on 10 Sep 2022: Today I can say that I feel good about myself… swelling has died down and my eyes are still a bit crusty when I woke up, but it’s a lot less dry and irritated. I occasionally dab with a cold compress since it feels nice and refreshing. I am still getting used to my new look, and so happy not to see my eyebags anymore! Looking forward to the next few weeks as I heal. Updated on 14 Sep 2022: I was having issues with posting a photo the other day, looks like the site’s update feature needs some improvements… anyways I feel like I’m “back to normal” with my eyes. I’m able to finally put on my contacts again which is a big deal for me. I don’t really like wearing glasses anymore and I can’t wear shades when it’s too bright for my eyes. The region where my tear ducts are near my nose still feels a little numb which I understand gets better over time. No more crusty eyes in the morning but still get occasional tearing up if I strain my eyes during work. Really happy with the results so far! I don’t think it’s gonna change much in the next few weeks but will post an update in a month or so.

Scheduled for TT and Lipo in the morning - excited for this journey

Super nervous being that this is my 1st surgery but I'm trusting the process. Dr. Conners and his staff definitely made me feel comfortable and I'm excited for this journey. Will update on post op and results. Updated on 13 Jul 2022: I'm healing quite well and walking around. I'm swollen and a little sore but other than that I'm healing very well. Dr. John Conners and his team are amazing. I removed my compression garment and it looks really good depsite being swollen. I can already see how I'm going to look and I'm super excited. 'll be going back for my 2nd and final procedure after I heal. I'll post again after my 1st post op app. Updated on 15 Jul 2022: Day 4 post op and I'm so surprised how well I'm recovering. I as well had my 1st bm today so everything seems to be getting back to normal. My stomach and back are getting smaller everyday. I'm so glad I chose Dr. Conners for my TT and Liposuction. Updated on 21 Jul 2022: So I had my 1st post op yesterday and it went really well. I was so nervous at first because I didn't know what to expect. However, Dr. Conners and Nurse Kaysi made me feel really comfortable and once I took a deep breath as instructed my drains were removed. It just felt like someone plucked me inside lol. I'm feeling really good and loving my new look. Although I still have swelling and some bruising from the lipo on my back I can see that the final results are going to be amazing. I'll post again on my 2nd post op next week. Updated on 26 Jul 2022: I'm 14 days post op and feeling good but still swollen and starting to have these minor spasms at my incision area but it's manageable no medication required. I'm hoping the tape can come off tomorrow but we'll see. Post again soon. Updated on 28 Jul 2022: Yesterday I had my 2nd post op and it went really well. I can now start little massages on my incision and lipo. I as well wore a body suit for the first time since having my surgery and I was totally pleased with my new look. My stomach is flat but still with minor swelling and my back bra lipo was on flat without any rolls showing through my body suit. I'm definitely pleased with the results so far. Can't wait until the swelling is completely gone. My 3rd post op is in 6 weeks with Dr. Conners hoping by then the majority of swelling will be gone. I'll post again throughout.

Breast Revision, Lift, Underarm Liposuction

I had breast implants 15 years ago. They were implants by Mentor: Smooth Round High Profile Implants both sides 400cc. They've been great and very natural looking until about two years ago when they began to look uneven on nipple height and the right looked smaller than the left. I consulted with three different plastic surgeons who all recommended a lift as well as new implants. They also recommended the newer gummy gel silicone instead of saline. I had my surgery in Atlanta this week. I'm going to post pre-op photos as well as a journey of my surgery and healing. Updated on 6 Jul 2021: Updated on 6 Jul 2021: DAY 1 POST OP Updated on 7 Jul 2021: DAY 2 POST OP Updated on 7 Jul 2021: POST OP DAY THREE Updated on 7 Jul 2021: POST OP DAY FOUR Updated on 7 Jul 2021: POST OP DAY FIVE Updated on 7 Jul 2021: Day on my 1-week post op visit Updated on 30 Jul 2021: My bruising has mostly subsided. My exercises have begun five times a day. I am still wearing my surgical bra. I am still wearing paper tape and scar away on top of my incisions. I am still waiting on my right breast to level out and become more even with my left breast. During one of my postop zoom meetings the doctor stated it could be six months before they both heal completely. He also stated that due to the amount of tissue in my left breast and the amount of scarring inside of my right breast, that he did two completely different types of lift. Therefore, they will not heal the same and they will not look the same just yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Updated on 30 Jul 2021:

Best Plastic Surgeon in Atlanta

Excellent experience. Dr. Connors is a highly skilled surgeon. The office staff is polite, kind and accommodating. The nurses are compassionate, knowledgeable and caring. My results from breast augmentation are incredible. They are perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Dr. Connors explained the procedure in detail during my consultation. I knew what to expect on surgery day. My post op/follow up appointments were always very informative and helpful. The entire staff made me safe and appreciated.

Wonderful for Injectables and Breast Augmentation

Cannot rave enough about this entire office. I first saw Maggie for Kybella, the injections themselves are not pleasant but I am thrilled with my results and her bedside manner. I later went back to see Dr Connors for a breast augmentation and can't explain how wonderful the process was from start to finish, my only regret is having not seen him sooner! I achieved a very natural look and feel my requests were all delivered 100% and then some. Dr Connors does a great job of catering to you individually, explaining every little detail, and making sure you understand the whole thing. He asks what you want, gives explanations of how things work, and then asks you to choose among his recommendations based on your wishes. All of the nursing support staff is excellent as well, and you feel like an individual rather than just another surgery. I have already had multiple friends go to him through my referral. If you are looking for some enhancement without having an obviously altered appearance, Dr Connors is a no brainer. Most recently I saw Jenny for Botox, again not pushy, asked my desires and what I hoped to achieve and went minimalist rather than over the top. Thrilled with my results once again. Dr Connors has done an incredible job top to bottom, start to finish. The office is beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the pricing is fair. One of the best things to me is none of it is the "experience I expected of a plastic surgeon" because everyone is authentic, natural, and the premise is to enhance your natural beauty rather than completely change or alter you.

Juvederm

Lip filler/augmentation via Juvederm

This isn’t my 1st time filling my lips; however, I think it’s the best I’ve ever had. And I owe it to Maggie Schreck at Dr. John Connors office. Once again, thank you for going above and beyond. Maggie is truly an artist and able to visualize what small tweaks here or there can make the most impact, while always keeping in mind your goals and budget. She’s honest, kind, and realistic. She is now one of the only people I will let touch my face. So, I came in wanting better lips while my boyfriend was outdo town. She gave me the perfect lips with 3 units of Botox for an upper lip flip, 70% of the syringe of Juvederm and the other 30% remaining was used for softening my jowel or areas around my chin. Seriously, best lips ive ever had. I had minor bruising and swelling but very minor. Worth every penny. Thank you to all the staff at Dr John Connors’ office. You ladies are truly the best and make my life better.

Halo Laser

KarenATL

Halo Pro & BBL 1st time laser

I’m almost 33 years old and have had significant sun damage, rosacea, and noticeable pores and vascular areas on my face that age me. Fillers and Botox are great, but the inconsistency of skin tone and color really make my makeup routine a timely affair. So, tomorrow morning I’m going back to my tried and true Plastic Surgeon’s office for a dual laser punch to knock these skin imperfections out. Heidi at Dr. John Connors office in Atlanta will be performing the laser procedure. It’s my first laser treatment but much needed. My biggest concern is my boyfriend coming home from his work trip early and seeing me swollen as hell... ( he’s supposed to be out of town on work through Sunday but he senses something is up lol) If you have any suggestions before hand or for post-procedure pointers to heal faster and swell less, please share! I’ll share every bit of my experience along the way and post photos.

Saline breast implant removal with lift

In 2006 I received Saline breast implants over the muscle. Huge mistake. I was genetically prone to have small sagging breast and Saline implants over the muscle just made it 10x worse over the last decade, not to mention child birth, breastfeeding and weight loss. Here are pictures of my breast to date Updated on 1 Dec 2018: Need a breast lift and implant exchange after 12 years, 1 child and weight loss. I had several consultations over the last 3 years. I knew it would be tuff but patience is needed when you want to achieve the best results! I decided on Dr. Conners in Atlanta, GA Updated on 8 Dec 2018: I had my saline implants deflated two weeks prior to my surgery date. I was told that a lot of Dr.’s do this in the hope of helping the muscles to contract, if you had previous implants over the muscles and want to move the replacement implants under the muscle. Updated on 13 Dec 2018: ’m here at Dr. Conner’s office. I arrived at 9:00 for prepping! Anxious, nervous and excited. I just hope everything goes as expected. Ie heard Dr. Conners is excellent for breast in Atlanta, but everyone is different. Updated on 13 Dec 2018: Today is day one post surgery. Very sore and sleepy but not in extreme or unbearable pain as I expected. Dr. Conners called me personally last night to make sure I was ok. The nurse called me this morning, again just checking on me. Staff is truly amazing and helpful. They seem genuinely concerned which is nice. I’ll keep these updates coming! Btw I’m still extremely swollen but breast look amazing! I have drains that when won’t be removed for a week. Updated on 16 Dec 2018: I couldn’t help it anymore. I took a bath today. Although I had been sponge bathing I felt like it wasn’t enough! I sat in the bath tub with waist high water. I even took my bra off and washed my back, well with help of course, I can’t actually do it. Anyway, not in any pain but I am uncomfortable especially when it’s time to sleep. I want to sleep on my side or my stomach. I haven’t taken the Percocet in 2 days! I’m happy about that too. Don’t want to be dependent on that. When it gets too uncomfortable I take the Lyrica and or the muscle relaxer to sleep. Ready to remove the drains but they are still consistently draining, which is also good. Here a few pictures I took today! These babies are perked up. I know there is still a lot of swelling and naturally they will fall but I’m so excited and extremely happy with my results. Just keeping my fingers crossed for my nipple review... Updated on 22 Dec 2018: I went to Dr. Conner’s office on Thursday for my first post op. Everything looks and feels great. I had the drains removed and I got to see everything! I’m so happy with my results so far. I listen and comply with everything they tell me. My nipples looked so good. I still have stitching and scars of course. They gave me more temporary bandage to leave on until next week. I didn’t take pictures when they removed everything but so far here is my progress... I wish I would have went a little bigger. But that’s just me being vain. Updated on 3 Apr 2019: I am extremely happy with my results. I just had another follow up and I’m scheduled to see the Dr. again in 3 months. I am so glad I went with Dr. Connors. My scars are visible but not horrible. I don’t feel like I’ve been butchered. I honestly haven’t used any scar cream or patches although I know I should. My nipples are still healing as well. Extremely happy with my results.

Pre-Op and Surgery Scheduled - it’s officially official!

I went on several consultations in Atlanta area including two consultations with Dr. Connors and he was really thorough in answering all my questions and i ultimately decided to go with him. I haven’t pre-op in two weeks, where I’ll make my finally decision on size, profile, type - all that. Updated on 26 Dec 2018: Hey Ladies!! Surgery is tomorrow!! I wasn’t nervous until today. I’m mostly concerned about the pain afterward. I’ve read sooo many reviews.. some saying it doesn’t hurt at all and some saying it’s the worst pain ever. I’m just praying everything goes smoothly and recovery is speedy. I start nursing school in 2 weeks, but luckily I won’t have clinicals the first semester so I’ll just be sitting in class. I started taking VitaMedica Recovery Support Program, Arnica, and Bromelain with Quercetin about 6 days ago and will continue taking it throughout my recovery. I kinda took a risk ordering the Recovery Support Program. It claims to promote a speedier recovery...so we’ll see if it actually works. Has anyone ever taken it before? Im going into this with a bwd of 12.5-13.0cm and 36B bra size and hoping to achieve a full C or small D. I am 5’8” and 160lbs sooo I decided to go with Natrelle Allergan 445cc Smooth Round Moderate Under the muscle. I will attach my “wish boobs” and pre-op pictures. My main goal is to achieve some nice cleavage. Updated on 27 Dec 2018: i fiiinally have boobs, after years of contemplating! I had my surgery early this morning at 730am. I arrived a hour earlier to speak to the nurse and surgeon for all my last minute questions. I let the doctor know that my MAIN things is my cleavage. Surgery was smooth..it felt like I was asleep for only 5 minutes lol. The pain i felt after waking up was pretty intense.. I’m not even going to lie. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that type of pain, but as soon as my Percocet and phenergan kicked in, the pain significantly subsided. On a scale 1-10, I’d say the pain was about 8 but after taking the meds the pain is about 4. In my last post, i said i was getting 445c but I ended up getting 485cc. That was the doctors decision based off my “wish boobs” pictures and my goal of achieving more cleavage and size. However i know that the 40cc difference won’t make much of a difference. I’m all wrapped up in tape so I haven’t seen my new girls yet. i will have the tape taken off at my first post-op appointment in a fews. I will be sure to upload pictures as soon as the tape removed. Updated on 28 Dec 2018: Soo...I had surgery yesterday, so i guess today makes my post-op day 1. Sleeping wasn’t that bad, except waking up every 3 hours to take my meds. Also, I’m peeing ALOT...probably from all the water and gateraid I’ve been drinking. It’s really annoying to have to keep getting in and out of bed to pee every 20 minutes. Lol. When i woke up in the morning, i definitely experienced “morning boob” like the most of you. My breast were soooo tight that it hurt to just stand up. All in all, everything’s been tolerable. I think as long as I keep up with my meds, it’ll be bearable. I can’t wait to see what they look like! Updated on 29 Dec 2018: Can’t wait to get out of these bandages. Updated on 3 Jan 2019: Today was my first post op appointment. The appointment was with Dr. Connor’s two RN’s (Amber and Jen) and they informed me that I was healing just fine and that my incisions looked great. Both nurses have been great!! They are both very patient, informative, and super approachable. It was my first time seeing my tata’s since surgery and I’m so glad everything looks normal. I’m no longer taking any pain meds..only Tylenol and ibuprofen. The only pain i have is near the incision sites, which is minimal and expected. —— I know nobody is looking at this review, but i hope someone eventually finds these post helpful because I wasn’t able to find hardly any reviews with the implant size and profile that i was getting. I found that most people who got 485cc were getting high profile versus moderate profile.

From 34J to 34D - Finally Got my Dream Breasts!

I had struggled with large breasts since eight grade. Years of back pain, neck pain, and just overall unhappiness and lack of self confidence finally pushed me to the edge at the age of 33. I had lost 90 pounds and my breasts went from a 38I to a 34J. I had trouble with swimsuits and clothes in general. I decided to go for it June 9th 2017. I carefully selected my surgeon after researching doctors that had the specific aesthetic I was looking for. My goal: beautiful, perky breasts that looked plump, soft and proportionate. I found Dr. John Connors here in RealSelf. I made the first appointment January 2017. His staff photographed me, and took care of getting me approved for insurance. At the consult I was very concerned about losing sensation in my nipples. I didn't want my nipples disconnected. He and his staff assured me they had handled more severe cases (but yeah mine was pretty bad). Surgery Day: I went in the morning, my mom took me to the hospital. It was outpatient surgery. I was given Lyrica to take that morning, and once at the hospital I was put under general anesthesia. I was told Dr. Connors was a perfectionist, and I was under a total of four hours. I had severe sagging, and needed a major lift. Right before I went into surgery, Dr. Connors marked me up, and asked me what size I wanted to be. EEK! I wanted to make sure I still had some curves, but I also needed relief. So I went for a D cup. I am 5'2 and ~175 lbs, a size 12. Glad I did that because my new breasts fit me perfectly. After Surgery: I was throwing up so much, and I had a hard time with the anesthesia. This is not unusual for me. I remember getting home and just sleeping and sleeping. I propped myself up on pillows, two behind me, two under my arms and a roll under my knees. Dr. Connors asked me to stay hydrated with gatorade. So I drank a ton of that to keep replenished. My new breasts were covered in a plastic film and gauze, and secured in a surgical bra. Pro Tip: wear a shirt that opens in front, you won't be able to raise you arms. I had two drains in each armpit. These were removed three days after surgery. My mom emptied my drains and was careful not to do anything that could contaminate them or put me at risk of infection. We had to write down the drainage amounts. When the nurses removed my drains, they did both at once (bless them!) and had me take a deep breath in - and when I exhaled they pulled them out. It felt like snakes slithering out from under my skin but it only lasted a few seconds. Not painful, just WEIRD. Healing: I am a slow healer, like super slow. But I am also a good healer. I had surgery the same day as a friend of mine and she healed twice as fast. See the attached photos and the dates. Complications: I had a few blood blisters under my right breast that I kept a very close eye on. The T-Junctions in the anchor incision are the most prone to wound breakdown. The T junction at the bottom of my R wasn't healing very quickly, and I recall having to keep it covered with XEROFORM Petrolatum bandages for a few weeks after surgery. These were a Lifesaver and I found them on Amazon. I got the 1x8 inch and they fit perfectly underneath the breast. They kept the tissues lubricated. I also used a little bit of aquaphor but my incisions got angry so I preferred the sterile XEROFORM gauze instead. As you can see in the pics that R side T junction healed beautifully. High protein diet, lots of fluids, and zinc tablets helped immensely too. A couple weeks post op I noticed a bruise developing in my left breast. My surgeon concluded this was a small hematoma (a collection of blood - like a blood tumor). He didn't feel that it was in need of draining, and advised it would resolve on its own. You will see in the pics it got ugly before it got better. The left areola appears a tiny bit sunken now from where that hematoma was, but my surgeon says when I go for my tummy tuck they can put a little fat in there to fluff it up - its seriously not noticeable at all, just to me because I am a perfectionist. Overall: I am SO SO SO GLAD I DID THIS. Dr. Connors is the best. He was kind, patient, and his staff was amazing in particular his PA Maggie. I was emailing her pictures and making sure I was Ok. I was 33 when I had this and I wish I would've had it sooner. I am almost 10 months out from surgery now, and I wanted to wait until I could share the whole experience. I am so happy with my breasts now. I went from a size Large in tops to a Medium. I sleep better, my breasts don't sink into my armpits, and my quality of life is just better. If you are debating this, pick a reputable surgeon, follow their post op advice, take good care of yourself, and you'll be so happy you did this. PS: I HAVE FULL SENSATION IN BOTH NIPPLES. THEY FEEL AMAZING, I CAN SLEEP ON MY STOMACH AND WEAR UNDERWIRE BRAS (OR EVEN NO BRA!) MY NIPS APPEAR INVERTED IN SOME PICS THATS BC OF THE SWELLING - THAT WENT AWAY.
