Q: Is Volux good for jawline definition? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. PerskyApril 23, 2024

A: Hello Baz, Yes, Volux is an excellent filler for jawline definition. I have been using in my patients for the past year with excellent results. The cost in California will vary depending on who and where you choose to have your treatment. It will be more if you choose a double board certified facial plastic surgeon in their clinic for you injections, it will be less if you choose a nurse or aesthetician in the pop up spa in the strip mall. Given the recent problems with counterfeit Botox disasters, I would recommend carefully choosing who does your facial injections. As with sushi restaurants, it's not a good idea to go for the cheapest option when it comes to aesthetic treatments. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA

Q: What eye procedure do I need? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. PerskyApril 17, 2024

A: Hello Romantic, My favorite surgical procedure is a skin only upper blepharoplasty performed in our office under local anesthesia. The procedure takes about an hour, patients are sedated with Xanax and a weight appropriate dose of Demerol and an antihistamine so that they are extremely comfortable making the treatment quick and easy. The incision and stiches are in your natural eyelid skin crease which you can see in your photos. The sutures are removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. The lid is initially swollen and slightly bruised. A day or two after surgery concealer can be applied. The incision line evolves from red to pink to normal skin color over 4 to 6 weeks, once it is back to normal skin color it is not noticeable. The day of your upper blepharoplasty and the following day involve relaxing and resting, after that, you feel normal, may work from home or even put on your sunglasses and go about your business. Excercise may resume a couple of days after your stitches are removed. Feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns. As with any aesthetic treatment it is extremely important to choose your treating physician carefully based on their experience, skill, certification, knowledge, care, and natural artistic vision. Good luck and be well!

Q: What are the risks associated with Sculptra?
Answered by Dr. PerskyApril 16, 2024

A: Hello Rayo, Sculptra is extremely safe and effective as an injectable collagen bio-stimulator. It is the same material that absorbable sutures are made of. As with any medical procedure, appropriate patient selection is important. Additionally, Sculptra must be prepared and injected properly by expert injectors to avoid problems. Patients whom I would not recommend Sculptra injections are those with Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE) and those who have had problems with absorbable sutures not dissolving. It is also important to avoid dental procedures for at least two weeks following Sculptra injections. I have used Sculptra since 2009 without seeing any delayed reactions. In the extremely rare event of a delayed nodule reaction occuring, it can be taken care of by an expert Sculptra injector. As long as you have chosen a expert, go ahead and enjoy your Sculptra facial rejuvenation. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA

Q: Long, narrow gaunt face. Will fillers fix it?
Answered by Dr. PerskyApril 9, 2024

A: Hello R, I would treat you with Sculptra foundational treatment to harmonize your facial structure. Make sure to choose an expert injecting physician. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA

Q: Facial advice to help look younger and prevent excessive aging? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. PerskyApril 9, 2024

A: Hello MissG, Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is the surgical answer to your concerns. I perform the procedure in our office under local anesthesia. It takes less than an hour. Patients are given a dose of Xanax and an injection of Demerol and antihistamine to make them very comfortable. The stitches remain in place for 5-6 days, the downtime is minimal, and the rejuvenation is one of the "biggest bangs for the buck" of anything we do in facial procedures. Make sure to choose an expert to ensure best results. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA
