I decided to get lipo on some areas that I could just never shift even with eating well and going to the gym 4-5 times a week. I decided to go with medaway in Istanbul as I had heard great reviews. All in my experience with medaway was good but there were a few things I was not happy with that could have been avoided. When I arrived in Istanbul I was told that I would be met at the airport by someone with a sign for my name, they also left instructions of a meet up point, I could see 2 young boys that looked as though they were a taxi company so after about 25 mins waiting for the sign with my name I went and asked them and they were the company I was to use and yes this was right - if I was told this from the start it would have made life a lot easier!! I arrived at the hospital and was greeted by a guy who didn’t actually tell me his name just that he was in a rush, he quickly got my blood tests done then up to fill out some forms. I was to spend the night there then the next day have my consultation at 8am then straight into surgery!! That morning I met with my surgeon Dr.Feryal. She was so lovely!! I felt medaway were trying to push a tummy tuck but as I haven’t had any kids I thought it was best not to and she said this was absolutely correct! The areas I was having treated was abdominal, sides, upper and lower back, inner thighs and arms. I felt I did my research but the truth is it’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, lipo is BRUTAL!!!!! The surgery all went well but I had a common reaction to anethsisia where for about 2 hours I was shivering uncontrollably, I also wasn’t allowed to eat or drink for 4 hours which was horrible all I wanted was water!!!! Finally after the horrendous 4 hours I was brought some water and a small meal of watery noodle soup and raisins, I couldn’t eat any of these but was very glad to drink! When I came back to, I realised I had a lot of drains in, I think 8 in total at the beginning! If you have ever had these before you’ll know how disgusting and uncomfortable they are. I had to have them in for 4 days it was awful!! I spent the first 2 days in the hospital which was fine, the nursing staff at medaway are amazing! Most speak very good English or can usually work out what you need. On the 3rd day I was to be discharged and taken to a hotel, this is where I felt a bit distressed, I was told and the drains would only be in for a few days and assumed they would be out before leaving the hospital. I was literally covered in blood as you can’t shower, I was blood dripping all over the place, I panicked and asked if I could stay one more night till the drains were out but was told that every patient is the same and I’m not special basically! To top this off the hotel has a strict policy if you get a lot of blood on the bed they charge you! I was given a plastic bag for my drains, put into a shared taxi with a couple - bare in mind I stink for a start, I’m in slippers my compression garment with a hospital gown because I’m still covered in blood and sent on my way! The hotel was really nice and it was amazing to order my own food. The first night I was visited by the nurse, she was so so lovely! She advised my drains would be out the next day and booked me in for 3 lymphatic drainage massages - please prepare to include these in your budget as you will need to continue when back home, I think all in it’s costing me an extra £600 . I had my drains removed on the morning of day 5 and my first massage straight after, I’m not gonna lie these are so gross!!! They do help a lot but are really disgusting and sore. I cannot fault the medical staff at medaway, they were all amazing and super helpful, the organisation staff are a total different ball game, none of them were unpleasant but I just felt they didn’t really care for the patients and this could use addressing, I still however would recommend the company as it does make things easy but I’ll know next time what to expect - hopefully I won’t need a next time! But please don’t read fluffy lipo stories, I’ve no idea who these people are that got through it easily, I’ve got a really high pain threshold, I’m not a wimp at all but jeez I would never ever have gone through it if I knew how hard it was going to be!! Even with the results. Day by day I’m getting better and starting to look much better, however it’s been really tough!
