Botox
Q Follow-up: To all of the Drs. that says Botox is not permanent, could you please explain?
A

First of all, I am sorry this happened to you. I know that you come into an Aesthetic Clinic because you want to look your best and it can be very distressing when you don't get the results you were hoping for. Botox is a medication that has an excellent safety record with a fairly predictable response. For the vaste majority of people, it lasts 3 - 4 months if the dosage is correct for the mass of muscle treated. I have a few patients with strong muscles who are "frozen" with very small dosages of Botox and I have a few patients (myself included) who require very high dosages to get a good response. You may be on the more sensitive side. Because Botox is so predictable, most injectors have a "go-to" dosage for a certaain strength of muscle. Unfortunatley, if the person is more sensitive to Botox than average, they will be frozen. There is no way for the injector to know if the patient is average or senstive before their first treatment. Over time, even the most "frozen" person will recover muscle tone. But it can take time. I have a patient that reported it took over a year for her to recover her smile. Unfortunately, she couldn't tell me the amounts injected as she was seen at another clinic. But, by treating her very conservatively, she is happy with her results and has not experienced any adverse results
