Had terrible jaw clenching, headaches, ear aches, exhausting pain. I had an initial consult with Casey at Goodskin who was amazing. Kind, thoughtful, just super. He suggested we start very very easy, and suggested 15 units per side, citing the fact that I could lose volume in my face and that we should go very slowly. I'm 47, and was getting some pre-jowling. Went to Goodskin, had a really great first experience with him and a staff member. They took photos, we went over the procedure, and the possibility of other kinds of work. Fast forward 3 weeks, and I don't feel a difference. I have a follow up appt with the co-owner, Lauren as Casey had been away on paternity leave. I found her brash in general, but knowledgeable, and she suggested that maybe botox wasn't working and that my immune system had rejected it. Fair enough. She suggested she do 40 units of dysport - and I was a bit hesitant. She kindly offered to cover the first 30 and I'd pay for another 10 units. Fine. I wasn't asking for that at all, but it was cool to offer. But I was concerned that I would now have 35 units of neurotoxin in my masseter, and I asked several times if it would be damaging. She kept telling me that no, in Korea they do way more, but provided no context. Masseter botox is also done to slim the face - which I def don't need. I go in, and I'm still concerned this is the wrong move. One of the staff members takes a few photos of me - she insists they need the photos to measure the efficacy of previous treatments. Seems like a smart call. I go into the treatment room, and Lauren comes in, doesn't greet me, doesn't review the before and after photos, hardly even looks at me - the vibe was super weird. I bring up my concern - will this be damaging, and she scoffs, insists it's fine and again, that in Korea they do x amount. Then she brings up the money. You're fine paying for 10 units, right? I said, yeah, that's what we discussed, is that what you want me to do? And she rudely says I would like you to, yes. As if I'm a child. This was clearly about the money. (This was also brought up to me again, later by one of the staff, that I received 30 units I didn't pay for.) She injects me, gives me a bit more advice in regards to the TMJ, speedily leaves, doesn't bother to wipe the blood off my face or give any sense of what to do next. I was so shocked by how insensitive, rude and condescending she was, that I later called and complained - when most might have written a review like this. The staff member I spoke to - who was also in the room with us - did her best to field the complaint, but was largely patronizing, saying to me "we'll remember for next time that you prefer a more compassionate approach." Um. Cool. One day later, the staff member sends me the before and after pictures, showing me that the first round of Botox had indeed worked and that my masseter was atrophying - and my face shape was already changing. Fast forward 2 weeks, and after the 2nd round, and my face looks terrible. The masseter has atrophied so much that my lower face has started to sag, and my cheeks are now hollow and the loss of volume is severe. I email to find out if we should do some work to correct this - perhaps some filler etc. The same staff member who'd been in the room with Lauren calls me immediately, is extremely defensive, saying I'd come in for medical relief. When I brought up the fact that had Lauren actually looked at the photos, she might have been more cautious, or at the very least warned me that my face would continue to change. But she did not do her job and this was the result. I was then told to correct this, the owner would insist that I have 8 vials of filler at the cost of around 7K, and would do no less to fix this! I was then reminded I didn't pay for 30 units of that free dysport, that perhaps I needed some time to financially plan, and that I needed to understand that they couldn't do any less to fix it. Had they done their job correctly in the first place, actually considered my questions and concerns, I might not be in this situation. Yes, it's about pain management, but it's also about not doing additional damage.
