This is a warning for anyone (particularly trans folks) who are attempting to go to this office and use insurance. I was supposed to have surgery in 5 weeks --I had just booked a place, took time off from work, found childcare for my children and had my partner take time off from work to care for me. And now, no surgery and back to the drawing board to find a more transparent and accountable office. Originally, I had been excited to work with this office. Hunter was so kind, and responsive. I explained that I had insurance. She checked and confirmed I had coverage (yay). But turns out if was out of network which was going to cost me more than 2x the in-network cost. She said they could request a PPO waiver to be considered in network and assured me it would most likely be covered and nothing to worry about and booked me a surgery date. Fast forward to me calling into the office 2 times in December to check in and again.. I was assured it would likely all work out. I called a 3rd and final time( Jan 10th) and the tone completely changed. I was told it was unlikely to be covered and that insurance didn't even have to respond since it was a favor we were asking (and not a regulation where insurance must respond in 30 days). She told me I need to hurry and decide what to do because I was taking a spot from someone else and they had a long list. And she told me to call my insurance to see about this waiver. I called insurance on the 10th and guess what? No waiver was ever requested! I emailed Hunter and she acknowledged that no waiver was ever filed and they didn't file it because insurance told them it was likely to be denied and delay surgery. If this is true, then why was I not told of this back when she found this out? Why was I told that multiples times that a waiver was filed and it actually NEVER was? And then when I found out this was a lie and you admitted to it why would you never apologize or try to make this right in any way shape or form? She just acknowledged I was frustrated and wished me well in the future and then cancelled my surgery date via an automated message. All of the sudden, I went from feeling like this business cared about its patients, and particularly being a part of the trans surgery community...to feeling like I was just bamboozled and gaslit and like I was just another number and another dollar sign. And since I wasn't going to be paying out of network prices, I didn't matter anymore. This is not how business should be conducted and this is just not how people should be treated. Period.
