I had a consultation with Flavia Thompson 3 weeks before my procedure and she started me on the Obagi system, which is like a miracle in and of itself! Flavia is stunning and you can see that she practices what she preaches regarding skin care! We talked about different treatments and what it was that I wanted to see changed. Ultimately we decided on the Pearl Laser Rejuvenation. I have to say I was a bit nervous when I showed up at the spa for my Laser treatment. But everyone there is very nice and talked to me about what to expect. There were also a couple of other patients in the waiting area that were repeat clients so that put me at ease. My appointment started with a numbing cream put on my face and neck for 45 minutes and then re-applied again for about 30 minutes. Flavia and crew were in and out of the area checking on everyone and making us all feel welcome. It was obvious that it's a busy spa but not so that it feels rushed or impersonal. Flavia came to get me and instructed me to wash all the numbing cream off (which felt really weird) and then introduced me to her husband Bill who would be doing my treatment. They walked me through the whole procedure and told me about the machine itself and gave me an idea of what to expect. Everyone donned their goggles and we got down to business. Let me just start off by saying OW! It hurts! Not joking it hurts but not so much that you want to stop. You feel the guide rod of the laser touch your face before the pulse comes on so you at least know where it's going to get you. It does about a 2 second back and forth burst and stops. Bill talks pretty much the whole time reassuring you and letting you know how it's going. During this time Flavia is assisting Bill and keeping you occupied so you can't get up and run LOL! He goes over your whole face twice. The first pass is a lower setting that the second and he did tell me that the second pass was going to be stronger. He also went on a much lower setting for the neck and that only gets one pass. Once the laser part is done Flavia put a nice cooling mask on your face and you feel a sense of relief that it's over. I got up and headed for the front foyer to get my post op instructions. I tried to have a conversation with Bill about some signage (my business) but it retrospect it probably wasn't a good time to have any intelligent conversations. I was uncomfortable and really just wanted to stick my face in a bowl of ice water. I probably sounded like a moron. Fast forward a half an hour and I took a the mask off and doused my face with cold water. OMG that felt so good I was thinking of locking myself in their ladies room and staying the night! But I satisfied myself with clipping one of their face cloths that I soaked with water for my hour drive home. By the time I got home the heat in my face had pretty much subsided and I did my first vinegar soak and then slathered on the Aquaphor. I was starting to feel a little better and happy to be home. I didn't have any issues sleeping and I looked like I had fallen asleep in the sun when I woke up but fortunately the pain was gone. Now it was just like a sunburn and time to heal. As I write this I am 3 days out and the peeling has started. I can see freckles and sun damage just rolling off my skin and leaving fresh pink skin behind. I have taken many pictures and will continue to update this review. If you are looking to have a treatment done (whatever it may be) Botox, Dermabrasion, Laser, definitely go to Avalon Medical Spa and have a consultation. Their spa is beautiful and the staff is excellent! Updated on 28 Nov 2018: First an apology to Flavia and Bill for getting their last name incorrect. Should be Thornson. Today is Day 5 and I'm still a little itchy around the hairline but my skin is looking great. I have only sunscreen and mascara on in this picture. To me I look filtered :-) which is a good thing! My skin feels amazing and I'm told it will continue to improve as the collagen production improves in my skin.
