The patient's existing silver amalgam fillings were replaced with tooth-colored composite fililngs, as the existing restorations were separating from the patient's teeth, enabling the formation of decay. Replacement allowed for removal of the decayed areas, and additionally enhanced the strength and esthetics of the patient's teeth.
