Ear reshaping, or otoplasty, can be for just one or both ears. The phrase is often used that the ears are "pinned back" when ear reshaping surgery is done. Actually, there are no "pins" nor visible sutures. To reshape the ear an incision is hidden in the back of the ear where then a puzzle shaped piece of cartilage is removed and the cartilage reapproximated which pulls the ear back to a natural and pleasing position. This is done safely under local anesthesia.
