This patient ran 6 miles, 3 days a week but was unable to improve the contour of her tummy and hips. She was concerned about postoperative nausea because she experienced vomiting after an appendectomy. She was gratified that she had no nausea after this procedure. At her 1-week postoperative appointment, she asked about lumpiness she could feel in the lower abdomen. I reassured her that this was swelling and would soften with time. The creases of the upper flanks, seen on the back view, were almost eliminated.
