This 36-year-old male from near Austin, Texas came to see Dr. Kerr at his Round Rock, Texas plastic surgery practice to discuss improving the appearance of his right ear. He was born with the congenital defect in the ear which gave the outside of the ear the appearance that a wedge of tissue was missing. He also had a very prominent ear on that side so the defect was even more noticeable. He had lived many years with this appearance and wanted to bring the attention of people back to him and off his ear. An otoplasty (ear pining) surgery was the essential component to make this a reality. During his consultation Dr. Kerr talked about options to improve the appearance of his ear by moving tissue around and moving the ear closer to his head. His surgery took just over an hour and he was comfortable throughout with a little Novocain and oral valium to calm his nerves. He is now several months out from surgery and has a very nice contour and appearance. His ear is no longer the subject of attention in his daily life which is a great improvement in his appearance and confidence.
