45-54 year old woman treated with Breast Reconstruction

This is a 54 year old woman who presented with a history of a bilateral mastectomy after she developed a left breast cancer. She required postoperative chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She decided to undergo reconstruction several months after her mastectomy procedure. We decided to do a left breast latissimus flap and a right breast tissue expander type of reconstruction. Usually, we like to use the same type of procedure on both sides, but the patient did not want the extra down-time from the more invasive flap surgery. The radiation on her chest wall precluded the use of just a tissue expander on the left because of possible complications. Therefore, we used two different types of reconstruction for her two sides.
