In some cases, where a woman wants a more permanent solution to producing a fuller upper lip, instead of going above her lip margin with lipstick, surgery can be performed. This involves excising a slight amount of skin (white lip) above the lip margin and advancing the mucosa upwards. This is the only method that can be used to produces a more prominent Cupid's bow and change the actual outline of the lip. The lower lip was also augmented in this case.
