This female lost a significant amount of weight and developed loose hanging skin from her upper arms. She was unable to wear short sleeve shirts and hated the feeling of the loose hanging skin. She visited our office to see what could be done about this. It is common to develop loose skin of the upper arms after significant weight loss. The skin of the upper arms does not have great elasticity, and is often unable to shrink and fit the new form of the arm contour after weight loss. This results in loose hanging skin which patients dislike. The loose and hanging skin is treated with an arm lift, or brachioplasty. The scars confine to the inner aspect of the upper arm and extend for a variable distance. Though these scars tend to widen, they do fade over time and are confined to the inner aspect of the arms where they are less conspicuous.
