For this type of ear surgery, correction of prominent and dissimilar ears, the parents of this little boy chose Vincent Lepore. At the time of his first visit to Dr. Lepore, the little boy is 4 years old, and his parents have a number of concerns regarding their child, and the comments of other children. Often, medical insurance will cover this type of corrective ear surgery. In this case, there were multiple corrections. The deformities were different for each ear. One ear was prominent, lacking what’s known as an antihelical fold and rim. The other ear was quite a bit smaller, and fit the description of what’s called a cup ear deformity, in which the cartilage curls over and forms a cup shape. The parents decided to proceed with otoplasty, and were carefully counseled on their role in the healing process, including scar care.
