Transferring hair from a permanent area of the scalp (typically the back or sides) to another area where hair has fallen out is called Hair Transplantation. This particular method of hair transfer is called follicular unit transplantation where a narrow strip of the permanent hair is harvested, then studied under a microscope. The strip is then dissected, extracting the follicle units that contain 1-4 hairs. The grafts are then placed into very small recipient sites at the hairline or bald areas. These small sites cause minimal damage to the skin which allows Dr. Laris to safely transplant thousands of grafts in one session. By controlling graft size, distribution and individual hair growth pattern, transplanted hair blends in naturally with the original hair.
