The PrecisionTx is a minimally invasive skin-tightening laser designed to contour the lower face, jawline, neck, and arms, without the potential risks and downtime of surgery. The laser melts fat and heats up the collagen layer, causing it to contract and tighten, while also stimulating the production of new collagen for thicker, firmer skin over time.

The PrecisionTx can also treat sweat glands in the armpits, to curb excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis. It takes about a week to see the effects, and results can last up to a year.

Pros

  • The device is designed to self-monitor temperature. It shuts off when the ideal temperature is reached, to reduce the risk of burns.
  • It tightens and contours the lower face and neck without the downtime or cost of surgery.
  • Because it’s performed under local anesthesia, RealSelf members say it’s practically painless (save for some light pressure).
  • There is no need for stitches, and there are no visible scars once you’ve healed.
  • You can resume normal activities a few days post-procedure.
  • It can dramatically reduce sweating and improve quality of life for those struggling with hyperhidrosis.
  • There’s a low risk of hyperpigmentation with this laser, so it’s suitable for all skin tones.

Cons

  • Final results can take between three to six months to show, since collagen production is a gradual process.
  • Results can vary, and there’s no way to predict how your skin will respond.
  • Risks include swelling, bruising, and numbness in the treated areas. These issues are typically temporary.

  • Average Cost:
  • $3,875

Your cost will depend on your provider’s level of experience, their practice location, the number of treatment areas, and whether you’re having it done as a contouring treatment or for hyperhidrosis. When done for cosmetic skin tightening and lifting, it’s not typically covered by insurance. However, PrecisionTx for hyperhidrosis may be covered. Check your insurance plan for details.

The 60- to 90-minute treatment is performed under local anesthesia. If you’re targeting the lower face, your doctor will make three small incisions—one behind each ear and one under the chin—before inserting a cannula-guided laser fiber under the skin, to target the deeper dermal tissue. Depending on the amount of liquefied fat in the area following treatment, however, fat removal via liposuction may be necessary. In such scenarios, your surgeon may need to widen your incisions, to accommodate a larger cannula, and place a stitch or two to close the wounds.

Expect swelling, soreness, and possible bruising for the first week. You’ll likely see partial results immediately after treatment, along with continued tightening over the next few months as collagen builds. You’ll be sent home in bandages, with a chin strap for support. The bandages typically come off at a follow-up visit the next day, but you’ll continue to wear the chin strap for an additional two to three days.
