Jane Fonda has always been candid about her affinity for plastic surgery, but now the longtime actress says she’s done going under the knife. In a 2020 interview with Elle Canada<\/em><\/a>, Fonda opened up about her new outlook on altering her looks and her personal journey with self-acceptance.<\/p>

“I can’t pretend that I’m not vain, but there isn’t going to be any more plastic surgery—I’m not going to cut myself up anymore,” she said in the interview. <\/p>

The 82-year-old has openly discussed her two facelifts<\/a> (one in her 40s and another in her 70s), breast implants<\/a> (which were eventually removed<\/a>), and surgery around her eyes and jawline. <\/p>

“I got tired of looking tired when I wasn’t,” Fonda explained<\/a> in an HBO documentary about her life.<\/p>

Fonda has spoken in favor of plastic surgery’s anti-aging effects in the past, but her outlook on cosmetic treatments isn’t all<\/em> positive. “On one level, I hate the fact that I’ve had the need to alter myself physically to feel that I’m OK,” she said. “I wish I wasn’t like that.”<\/p>

According to Elle<\/em>, achieving a healthy level of self-acceptance has been an issue for Fonda throughout her life. <\/p>

She’s previously struggled with bulimia, which lasted into her 40s. She now works to be honest and transparent with fans in an effort to break down the picture-perfect facade that social media often creates. “I try to make it very clear that it has been a long and continuing struggle for me,” she explained. “I post pictures of me looking haggard—and once with my tooth out!”<\/p>

While the choice to get plastic surgery is a personal and private one, we commend Fonda for being open about her own experiences, especially since Hollywood has been notorious for making it a taboo subject for celebrities. “I have to work every day to be self-accepting,” she says. “It doesn’t come easy to me.”<\/p>
