How I Told My Fiancé I Wanted to Change My Ethnic Nose and Forehead

Why I Did It - Rhinoplasty and forehead reduction

Our video series, Why I Did It, shows real people having difficult conversations with friends and family about why they chose to get cosmetic procedures. In the third installment, Jaelynn talks to her fiancé, Jesse, about her decision to get a rhinoplasty and forehead reduction.

As a child, Jaelynn was bullied for her ethnic features, which created lasting insecurities about her nose and forehead. “I was a little bit ashamed to admit it, because I felt like, being mixed, [those were] part of my Black features and I didn’t ever want to tell people I don’t like my Black features. I was very proud to be Black and Latina,” she says. She decided to seek out plastic surgery, to reduce the bulbous tip of her nose and lower her hairline.

Jesse was “immediately against it” and worried she wouldn’t look like the same girl he fell in love with, but he supported her during her recovery nonetheless. Today, Jaelynn loves the way she looks—and after seeing her confidence, Jesse is glad she went through with the procedures.
