Microdermabrasion Overview

Dr. Anna Wooten explains and performs microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is non-chemical skin treatment that typically uses crystals or diamond Microparticles for gentle abrasion and exfoliation to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells. Doing so reveals healthier skin while reducing skin impurities, clogged pores and other irregularities.

The treatment will remove a layer of dead skin cells to reveal healthy, fresh skin. The treatment can reduce the signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles. It can also promote new cell growth, leading to firmer skin.

Results will vary based on your skin and the number of treatments, but the result should be a smoother, more vibrant look.

Microdermabrasion only removes the outermost layer of skin and as a result requires no recovery. The treatment is painless and non-invasive. Some people even have it done during a lunch break

Microdermabrasion sessions cost about half of what Botox injections cost, and may address several skin conditions at a time. The average cost of a microdermabrasion treatment is $175 according to data from RealSelf members.
