Hey Everyone, I was very much in the same boat as most people here. I started tanning in tanning beds when I was about 20 and noticed my upper lip (mustache if you will) getting very dark. I stopped tanning, but unfortunately the damage I did was irreversible by this time. I went to general doctors, who prescribed me heavy creams which basically burnt my upper lip. Dermatologists, who also prescribed me creams that did not work, and wanted to put me on a regime of peels and microdermabrasion. At that time I was a student and could not even afford to think about this type of treatment. So years on, I purchased product after product from the drug store, hoping to find my cure. Some would diminish the dark area after a couple months, but as soon as I would go out in the sun it would flare up bad! I was reading about the natural cures turmeric has and figured this is something I could try and get behind. As I was tired of putting more chemicals on my face. I made a mixture of coconut oil and turmeric. I searched everywhere and could not find a ratio, so I went heavy on the turmeric and easy on the coconut oil. I heated the oil and mixed it together, let it set over night and when it cooled, the turmeric had settled to the bottom making a nice yellow paste color. I have been using this all over my face (works well on my acne too!) and its only been 2 weeks, but already I feel like my skin is brighter and the mustache is really lightened up. Three times a week I wash off my make up with coconut oil - use a delicate exfoliant (Neutrogena has a nice natural one) and apply this on my entire face with a brush. Other wise it will be staining my nails. I leave it for a half an hour and use a warm face cloth to take it off, (it will stain it the face cloth, beware) Then put some Vitamin C serum all over. I also heard that MSM vitamins helps to rebuild healthy skin cells, I am taking 1000mg twice a day. Also, not sure how good this is for your face. But on days where the dark spots where so dark, I put eye drops for red eye on my mustach with a q-tip and let it set in. Took about 15 minutes but you could notice a super quick difference I posted some pictures from start, to two weeks and will follow up by a month. I hope that this helps other people too.
