The FDA has recently approved SculpSure for fat reduction. With so many lasers and technology coming on the market for non-invasive fat removal it can get confusing as to which is the best treatment option. We’ve done the research for you, here is what you need to know:
Hypothermic laser technology.
SculpSure uses heat to kill fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Small applicator pads use
hypothermic laser technology, which is able to target the fat cells while keeping the skin a safe temperature.
For small trouble spots, not large areas.
This treatment is for stubborn trouble spots that won’t go away with diet and exercise. Studies showed up to of 24% of treated fat cells were destroyed after one session. The fat cells are destroyed and will not come back, but you can still gain weight in other areas.
Multiple applicators allow for more custom contouring.
There are four applicators, which can treat different areas simultaneously. However the applicators are small, so realistically all four would treat
one general area. Alternatively you can book two treatments back to back, so for example treat your love handles for 25 minutes and then immediately treat your lower abdomen for 25 minutes during the same appointment, but at an additional cost.
Results take a while, so be patient.
There is no downtime or recovery after the treatment. Results will be seen 12 weeks after treatment, but you may start to see some changes at the 6 week mark. The key is to be patient and not expect to see any change for at least 6 weeks. This is much easier said than done!

The bottom line: SculpSure looks promising as a way to treat small, stubborn fat pockets. If you are looking to treat a larger area or want to see a greater reduction in fat cells, this may not be an effective option. Another non-invasive treatment to consider is coolsculpting, which can treat a larger area. It will require more than one visit and is generally more expensive than SculpSure. If you have high expectations, you may want to look into good old fashioned liposuction. Though it is invasive and requires recovery, it has a 91% RealSelf Worth it rating which is significantly higher than any non-invasive treatment (CoolSculpting's Worth It Rating is 72%. SculpSure does not have a Worth It Rating at the time of this posting).
