Question about rubber bands used for slight underbite correction
- Last updated: 1 year ago
I'm currently on my 3rd set of trays and my dentist has recently put a button on the outside wall of the innermost tooth on each side of my *upper* jaw. I am supposed to stretch a rubber band from each of these buttons to a hook created from my *lower* invisalign trays right underneath the outside wall of the canine tooth on each side. My dentist explained to me that this technique is supposed to help correct my slight underbite. My question is, is this going to correct my underbite by shortening my lower jawbone, or is it going to achieve it instead by just moving my lower row of teeth further in without altering the length of my lower jawbone? My concern is that I don't want to end up with a shorter jawbone as that is going to make my small chin look even smaller. Thanks for your input.
