I have had liver cirrhosis from a medication toxicity for 22 years. I do have significant portal hypertension and not sure what kind of candidate I am for surgery. I did have surgery for a jaw infection at NYU last August and was given "controlled monitoring " rather than anesthesia. At age 60 a focus of DCIS was just found in my left breast. As per the MRI, there may be another area. I am waiting for all the info before I see a plastic reconstructive surgeon. I would not consider lumpectomy/ radiation for many reasons - there may be more than one focus now, and others will probably develop due to diagnostic radiation in the past. Also, I can tell you from experience [ I am a physician] it doesn't even look like a breast when they get done with it. Chemo and hormonal drugs are out of the equation too. I have had submuscular silicone breast implants [ 2 pairs] since age 28 and I am someone who really doesn't form scar tissue. I have always been very thin but had tummy tuck with lower rib removal to " tighten up" in 1996.Any referrals to surgeons who have experience with medically ill pts? My looks come first and I must look normal or I am not doing anything.
