More than any other fashion accessory, body art can give a lot away about personality.
Tattoos have the ability to show you how a woman wants to represent herself, much like clothes do, but in a permanent way. Getting a tattoo is such a personal choice and the position of it is also indicative of a person’s lifestyle: Either they chose to ink a hidden area on their body because they have a conservative job, or maybe they want their tattoo to become an integral part of their appearance, so they put it somewhere visible, instead. Tattoos on the lower back have been dubbed “tramp stamps” by some, but what do men think really think about them?
I asked some of my male friends what they thought about the placement of tattoos on the body, and to be honest, their responses really surprised me. I spoke with three guys: My mom’s friend Anthony, who’s an actor in Manhattan, my boyfriend’s friend Thomas, who’s a medical school student, and with Charles, who’s my friend’s boyfriend. Anthony’s first answer was pretty awesome. He said, “I think tattoo placement for women is a road map of her sensuality and psyche.”
Here's what the rest of the guys had to say ...Lower Back
Anthony: “A tattoo peeking just over the top of her jeans on her lower back tells me, ‘Do you want to know more?”
Thomas: “I don't have anything against a tramp stamp—I think it's hot. People are evolved to have sex, and I think the reason it's so taboo in our culture is that people are subtly aggressive and envious of each other.”
Charles: “ I mean it's a trope but tramp stamp says it all.”Wrists
Charles: “The woman is anywhere from a hippy spiritual yoga girl (if they have like an 'om' tat) to like a gothic-emo vibe (black heart tattoos).”
Thomas: “A tattoo on the wrist or arm can be sexy, but it needs to be subtle. I don't think a tattoo conveys much of intellectual value - it's aesthetic, pleasing to the eyes, sometimes sexy... but quotes don't generally fit that, at least for me.”Neck
Anthony: “A tattoo on the side of her neck says, ‘Damn, I'm bold! I dare you.'"Legs
Anthony: "One that you might find on the inside of her upper thigh says, ‘I'm sensitive in many ways and X marks the spot.'"
Thomas: "Ankle or lower leg (side of calf) can be pretty cute too."
Opinions are opinions though, so in the end, how you choose to present yourself to the world is ultimately up to you. Yes, tattoos on your lower back aren’t always the classiest, but is classy the look you’re going for?Follow RealSelf on PinterestFollow @realself on TwitterWant More 'What Men Think?'
