I started my Invisalign treatment in February 2017, 44 trays in total and aged over 40. After a few years of debating when to start orthodontic treatment I finally took the plunge after going to my usual dental check up in January and my dentist suggested I take action to straighten my teeth or I would face periodontal disease and possible tooth loss in future as I wasn't able to floss properly on a few teeth due to lower palate over-crowding. She took an x-Ray, which confirmed that one tooth was decayed due to over-crowding and she could not see the extent of the decay. I took immediate action and asked her to recommend me to an orthodontist. What a great decision that was! I started treatment 5 weeks after seeing her, this includes 2 ortho consultations, waiting for my trays and fitting them. I started my treatment on a Friday afternoon so I had the whole weekend to get used to the tray. I had an initial lisp, which I fore-warned my manager at work about. A week later it was much less noticeable. A little after that I went on holiday abroad for a week and wearing my tray was a bit limiting while on holiday but I soon got used to the daily cleaning routine and I ate less of course.I initially was told to change my trays fortnightly for the first 2 trays. I then went back to my Ortho in week 5 to hear that I could start changing my trays every 7 days. Initially a little sceptical I soon learned that align technologies have conducted clinical trials, which validate the claim that trays can be changed every 7 days from October 2017. I conducted my own research to check the validity of this claim and was pleased to hear that weekly changes was confirmed. For the last 8 trays I have been changing them weekly. All have fit very well with limited discomfort although my 10th tray, the current one, appears to be one of the more uncomfortable. The sharp edges from the first tray are back with a vengence and for the first time since the first tray this one fits less well. This may be because I had 2 extractions at week 3 and the gaps are set to close soon. I shall be changing my 10th tray in a few days time. I shall keep you posted.
