Due to a broken file in my root canal I am now having to have 2 mini implants put in due to the pain, is this normal?

I had a root canal in October, and was in the chair from 8am to 2 pm with my mouth open because the dentist broke a file off in the root about 2/3 of the way in one root. He filled it with a medication and a medicated temp crown to heal for 3-4 weeks before attempting to do the crown. By the 3 week period it started to hurt more and more each day, so they had me come back in and re did the root canal cleaned it up some more and then put a temp crown on it till I could get the crown in January. Well about the 2nd week into January my tooth started to hurt. I then went back into the dentist and they referred me to an Orthodontist and they told me that I had to have the tooth removed and an implant put in due to the fact that it was painful and that they could not do a procedure to get the file out and complete the root canal. So the dentist is applying the $1300 that I paid for the root canal to the removal of the tooth and for the implants. They are charging $1000 for each mini implant = $2000, and then charging me $750 for the replacement tooth. Has anyone ever had that happen, now instead of paying $1300 for the root canal and then $900 for the crown, I am stuck paying $2750. This is crazy $550 more than I was going to have to pay and now in so much pain even narcotics are not helping.
