My Breast Reduction Journey & Medicaid In Ky
- 1 month ago
Hi everyone... I'm a full time medical student so insurance isn't a luxury and I can't afford it therefore I'm on state insurance. I'm 5'1 129lb 36DD BMI 23.5. I have been wanting this surgery since I was 18. I've had breast since I was 8yrs old. I've fluctuated between 36CD-36DD until I was 26. I recently changed PCP. I had woke up one morning I woke up in so much pain and couldn't get up. I couldn't even turn my head or raise my arm to brush my teeth. So I went to see my new doc (July 27, 2016), I mentioned my breast weighing me down and pulling making it worse. She immediately agreed they are big for my frame. She asked if I'd consider BR. Ummmm ya think! She referred me to a surgeon the same day, ordered x-rays of my back and spine (done same day), and referred me to a neurologist because I'm already on imitrex which she increased the dosage. Apparently I was given a child's dose by my previous doc.
I met with the surgeon about a week and a half later (August 9 and still in pain hardly able to drive). He agreed that I was a perfect candidate and assured me I'd be have the surgery by end of the month no later than early Sept. He took pix and measured, showed me his b & a pix, discussed which method he'll use as well as my after size, and gave me pre-op and post-op packet. He also told me my insurance sometimes wants a mammogram so he gave me an order for that and lab tests.I went and did the blood work 2-3 days later and called them to inform them they should receive the results within a day or 2. About a week went by before I called them to see if they'd gotten them. Now all of a sudden I need to do a mammogram. So I schedule to do that a few days later, well I do that and I do a follow up call to my ps office afterwards. Now they have them but the nurse is waiting on the ps to sign off on everything to send to my insurance. Well later that day I get a call from the ps nurse asking me about a finding on the mammagram. Apparently they found out before the radiologist office told me. So about a day or 2 later the radiologist office calls to scheduke a diagnostic mammogram, and 3 days later i did that. While waiting for the results i get called back to have an ultrasound of that breast (right side). Then 10 min after that i find out there are a few cysts but nothing to be concerned about. I call the ps office the next day to see if they had gotten those results to send to my insurance. I didn't get a call back for about 2 days. I call them and finaly hear my insurance wants a signed and dated referral from my pcp. Now she had faxed the referral but not signed. So the nurse at the ps office tells me she's been calling my pcp office, but the lafy who handles referrals isn't calling her back. She asked me if I wanted to try calling, so I'm like hell yea (in my head). I call the next day and got the same damn vm, so i left a message and called right back and told the receptionist what I was calling for so she took a message. The next day the nurse from my ps office calls and says that my insurance approved me, but I can't get my date until they have the signed referral for insurance. I was close to my PCP office so I told the nurse that I'll go get it myself and bring it to her. She said fine but call once I get to the PCP office so she can tell them the fax # directly to the insurance agent handling my app. The next day I have a surgery date Sept 29 at 10am. Now I'm 12 days away and nervous. Since bra sizes vary by brand I have taken several screenshot of the boob size I want. I'm thinking Rhianna before her boob job. I live with my bf so I'm getting prepared for my big day. I'll be having the anchor w/of drains outpatient general anesthesia. My ps isn't giving me my meds until day of ugh! Any suggestions or questions feel free....
