I wouldn&#39;t replace it unless it has failed. That can happen if the porcelain breaks, or you get a cavity under it. If it has broken, consider going with an alternative restoration like an implant. An implant crown can be constructed out of a stronger material like emax, and if the emax breaks, then you are only stuck with the replacement of 1 unit of porcelain instead of 3 or more.

	Also to consider, if the bridge fails, and 1 or 2 of the adjacent teeth can still be salvaged, then the implant won&#39;t cost much more than the bridge anyway.

I almost always recommend going with the implant over a bridge. In the case where aesthetics are concerned, a bridge can be more predictable. As for longevity, I believe the implant will likely win. Most implant decisions boil down to cost, so if you can afford it (and wait for the tooth to come) I would say go with the implant.

Apologies for using Irish/Canadian dental numbering but here&#39;s the question: Terrible teeth with multiple fillings &amp; root canal treatments. After many failed crowns I had 14 (upper rt 4) implanted 2yrs ago-final crown only 9 months ago. 15 was extracted &amp; bridged with a cantilever off 16 but the 6 is heavily filled, missing palatal side &amp; has a sinus to gum. Oral surgeon wants to extract 6 and bridge 16 to 14. I&#39;m terrified about longevity &amp; will require sinus graft. Is it best option?

Dental Implant Bridge vs Crown?

Everything has a life expectancy and can break and wear down. It is important to know that, but what can you do about it? I feel like it is best most of the time to conserve tooth structure and doing a crown doesn&#39;t do that. If the veneer is going to remove a significant amount of tooth structure then a 3/4 crown or full crown may be acceptable too. The only reason to do a full crown is if they are not confident about the bond and need the mechanical retention it offers, or that the bite is in a spot where the porcelain of a veneer risks being damaged.&nbsp;

	10 years is a good guess, but nobody knows for sure. If the veneer is bonded to a lot of enamel that can increase it&#39;s odds of lasting long.

I am getting one veneer on my severly chipped front tooth due to trauma last month. MY dentist told me it will last about 10 years. What happens to the veneer after 10 years? Does it fall off or chip? Also, is a porcelain crown stronger than a veneer?

I would just wait. Peroxides are capable of mutating genes, although they would have to get deep into the tissue and then into the blood stream, and then to the baby to affect the baby&#39;s health. I doubt that it is significantly absorbed to do that, but it is wise to just wait and get them whitened first thing when your baby is born.

I have not done many CEREC crowns, but there are limitations with them. The top reasons I would chose a lab fabricated crown have to do mostly with aesthetics. If the tooth is in the front, and it is very critical that it matches, there is no better way to go than with a ceramist that can build in the visual details into their crowns. A skilled dentist can sometimes stain the crown&#39;s surface to match closely, so it can still be matched.

	In the hands of a skilled and attentive dentist, the CEREC tool can perform just as well, and you can expect a long lasting, quality restoration. Be sure to ask for an emax crown material for back teeth since that will be the strongest.

a friend said I shouldn't go to my dentist for a crown. she said the best way to go about crowns is to find a dentist who has a CEREC machine where the ceramic crown is made the same day you get it inserted. do all dentists think that crowns made by CEREC are just as good if not better then lab-made crowns? Does CEREC usually cost the same or more?

The only thing I would be cautious about is if you have periodontal disease then get that fixed, or if your teeth are broken, worn, chipped, yellowed, have pre-existing fillings, then you might want to consider saving the money you spent on Invisalign and put it toward porcelain veneers.

When you clean a veneer, use a soft bristled tooth brush, and gently massage the front side of the veneered tooth. Dental plaque doesn&#39;t adhere to porcelain the same way it does to enamel, so it doesn&#39;t require the same amount of time and strokes of a toothbrush that enamel requires.&nbsp;

	If at the dental office, they should use a special paste made for porcelain, which is usually a very fine diamond polishing paste on the porcelain if they use anything at all.

i just got a porcelain veneer on my front tooth beacuse it was chipped in half. When I go for my cleaning, can the dental hygienist clean the tooth like any other tooth? Can the hygienist polish the tooth and use the cavitron on it? Do I need to have the tooth polished if it has a veneer on it?

How to Clean a Porcelain Veneer?

Porcelain is a very color stable material. If it was polished properly after contouring, the crowns should not gather any stain, and less plaque than enamel. Even smoking seems not to affect staining around porcelain, although I have seen a little bit that comes off with polishing. I wouldn&#39;t worry about it too much.

I recently had my front teeth crowned and the dentist had to do some recontouring in order for them to fit properly. Most of this was done on the backs of the crowns, but some on the sides for easier flossing I assume. Are these areas more likely to stain since some of the porcelain surface has been removed?

The IPR shouldn&#39;t cause any long term problems. Didn&#39;t the orthodontist who delivered the case have the rest of the trays that he could give you or transfer to another dentist? Usually IPR isn&#39;t done until the case is ready to deliver. That would be ideal if you could get a hold of the dentist and see if&nbsp;a transfer can be done.

	Also even when there is a bankruptcy, the practitioner is still obligated to finish treatment that has begun per his/her state dental license. If they don&#39;t finish treatment they should be accomodating to help you find another dentist. There are patient abandonment laws that prevent a practitioner from abandoning a patient who is being treated by him even if he is no longer financially responsible for the treatment anymore. I had Invisalign for a brief period but wasn&#39;t happy with how things were looking but I had already undergone some IPR. My orthodontist who designed my invisalign also had declared bankruptcy and essentially ran away with his patients money. I decided to just stop my treatment rather than pay more to a new doctor, and my case wasn&#39;t even that bad (just a mild overbite and jaw shifting to one side a little). I feel really bad that I had the IPR because I think it was unnecessary.

Is There a Way That Enamel Lost from Interproximal Reduction (IPR) Can Be Regrown?

I sometimes use crown, veneer, 3/4 crown interchangeably becuase the end cosmetic result is often the same as well as what I charge for each. There have been times where I have veneered over a porcelain crown without removing it. The most obvious example is where I veneered over a tooth that was involved in&nbsp;a 3 unit bridge so that I wouldn&#39;t have to add&nbsp;2 more&nbsp;units to his already expensive treatment plan. Just call the office back and see if they can clarify it for you.

My dentist said I am in need of crowns, however, the estimate says 'veneers'. At this prace, they charge more for veneers than they do for crowns. When I asked about this, they said I am getting a "veneered crowns". I'm not sure how I feel about this. Most of the damage to my teeth is in the back from grinding. What is the difference between a crown and a wrap around veneer? I really like my new dentist, but not sure they are being honest with me?
