Procedures I'm known for

Post-Pregnancy Procedures
Many patients turn to me for a “mommy makeover," although I prefer the term "post partum restoration." A mommy makeover can include a number of different surgeries, with the goal of restoring your body after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. This often includes a breast augmentation or lift, as well as a tummy tuck. In some cases, liposuction or other procedures are introduced. My approach is simple: "cosmetic surgery with common sense." Safety, realistic expectations and consistency are my highest priorities. I work carefully with every mommy makeover patient at my Rockville and McLean plastic surgery centers. I strongly believe that listening to patients’ desires and expectations is the most important part of this process. Beginning from your very first consultation, we’ll work together on a highly customized treatment plan that will help make your cosmetic goals a reality. The result will be a natural-looking, beautiful figure and regained confidence.
Breast Surgery
There’s a common phrase I hear from my patients in their 12-week follow up after I’ve performed their breast enhancement procedure: “I wish I had done this years ago.” Breasts are uniquely feminine, and when you’re unsatisfied with your shape, volume, and perkiness, it can have real effects on your confidence. I understand that all figures are different and that every person has their own cosmetic desires. That’s why I never take a “one size fits all” approach to breast enhancement surgeries done here in my Maryland facility. Together we’ll engage in comprehensive discussions, and I’ll conduct a thorough examination to create a treatment plan that ensures you’re completely satisfied. Whether you’re seeking breast implants, a breast lift, breast reduction, or a breast correction from a previous surgery, I can help you get there. The process starts with simply coming in to ask questions, explain your goals, and look at pictures.
Abdominoplasty
Also referred to as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is a plastic surgery procedure that can help create a flat, toned stomach. The surgery itself consists of three components: removing excess fat, removing excess skin (common with weight loss, pregnancy, and age), and then tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. A tummy tuck is an excellent option for those who have worked diligently to maintain a healthy weight, but are still dealing with looseness, laxity, and excess fat in the abdominal region. The reality is that simply “losing weight” won’t address issues of looseness, sagging, and weakened abdominal muscles. Weight loss can even make these issues more pronounced. In your consultation, I'll do a thorough examination to determine if you'd benefit from a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. In some cases, muscle tightening isn't necessary, and in other cases I might only advise liposuction. As always, I tailor each procedure to the individual to ensure beautiful results.

Total years in practice: 28

Dr. Adam G. Tattelbaum, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Rockville, Maryland. He’s been in practice for over 25 years and specializes in mommy makeovers, breast enhancements, and tummy tucks at his Maryland plastic surgery center.

Dr. Tattelbaum grew up in the home of an artisan, and these early experiences are what eventually drew him to aesthetic surgery. “My mother was a jeweler, sculptor and creative force in my life. I always knew that I too would work with my hands aesthetically as a career. The tools I used in her workshop are surprisingly similar to the same tools I use today, only the medium is far more complex,” he explains. “I love seeing the results of my surgeries. There is an immediate gratification even on the operating room table in plastic surgery. Mainly, I love making patients look and feel normal again.”

Upon graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Tattelbaum obtained his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. There, he received honors in his plastic surgical rotation.

After, Dr. Tattelbaum completed three residencies: a surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, a plastic surgery residency at Georgetown University, and a second plastic surgery residency at Harvard University. He is board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery (General) and American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition to his private practice, he is also a member of the clinical faculty at Georgetown and an attending physician at many regional hospitals.

When asked what sets his practices in McLean, Virginia and Rockville, Maryland apart from others, Dr. Tattelbaum points to his passion for teaching. “I try to distill 25 years of experience into concepts that my patients can easily understand. I love to see the lightbulbs go off in my patients' heads as they better understand what they are considering.” He takes the time to ensure that his patients understand the details of the procedure. “One might think that all the details are frightening, but I find the opposite. The more my patients understand, the more gratifying their experience becomes.”

He also underscores what a personal decision it is to choose a surgeon. “It's about the right fit for both the patient and the doctor.” Because of this, he tries to create a relaxed atmosphere, with no high-pressure sales tactics. “My practice is not filled with fanfare. There are no closers or sales people. My consultations are educational and realistic. My simple goal is that patients learn the important details so that they can make informed decisions.”

Dr. Tattelbaum says, “I treat each of my patients as I would treat a member of my own family and only make the kind of recommendations to them that I would make to someone dear to me. I believe that it is just as important to point out when patients do not need a particular procedure as when they do.”

Dr. Tattelbaum has received membership into the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). He's also been the recipient of numerous awards, including being recognized as one of the Top Plastic Surgeons by Washingtonian magazine and one of America’s Top Surgeons by Consumer Research Council of America.
