Hello,Veneers can be fabricated from composite or ceramic. If you have veneers that are made from composite material you can reshape it without any risk of fracture. If your veneers are made from porcelain and you do not like the final outcome, reshaping it is risky because porcelain can fracture, or by shaping it you can introduce cracks and it weakens it. Usually before final cementation of veneers, dentist show how they will look in the patient's mouth and gets approval and permission for cementation. The only way to change the shape of veneer significantly that is cemented is to re-do it.

Hello, I just got 16 veneers done upper and lower and I feel like the shape is not exactly what I wanted specially the front ones too big and square. I wanted something similar to my natural teeth (smaller and more rounded) do you think I can ask my dentist to reshape them and is it possible I don’t want to ruin them or be more disappointed. What can I do to get closer to my natural smile ?Thank you

Grafting materials have better success rate if they are placed in the site that has no inflammation or active infection going on. For better results &nbsp;abscessed tooth should be extracted, infection resolved and then bone grafting and implant placement (simultaneous or staged) performed. Implants are an excellent treatment option that we can offer to our patients, however you as a patient have to be patient, because it takes some time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Good luck!

I have an abscessed tooth #30. The Periodontist will extract the abscessed tooth and put collagen plugs in the socket to aid healing and is using a flap. I thought it was best to bone graft the socket at the time of extraction. I've read grafting the socket is best but the Periodontist is not recommending this. I do want to proceed with an implant and realize this process can take months.

From the picture it looks like you had chairside composite veneer done which is covering about half of your tooth. Doing this kind of restoration can be technique sensitive and if it is not idealy polished composte surface tends to adsorb pigments and that is why you can notice darkening. This kind of problem could be avoided if you would get a porcelain full surface veneer. However if you would choose to continue with composite veneer, you will need it to be re-done.

	To completely remove calcium spot is not an easy task because it sometimmes go deep and that would require removal of significant amount of tooth structure, which could lead to a weakening of the tooth structure.&nbsp;Your dentist should give a recommendation on how to solve this problem. Since getting my veneers on my front teeth due to white calcium marks, I have been getting brown/dark-coloured stains on the area around the veneer. My hygienist cannot even fully remove them. Is there anything that can be done to reverse this staining? Could I remove calcium spots so I do not need the veneers any longer? The veneer stars 3/4 of the way down from the tooth. This is the second set of veneers I have had and the tooth seems to be thinner since having the veneer fitted.

Hello, in order to answer your question you need an evaluation on amount of space that is possible to achieve with your orthodontic treatment and amount of bone available for implant placement. Creating a space for implant placement is very common procedure and can be achieved by good orthodontist. In case if there is not enough bone for implnat placement surgeon can perform bone augmentation procedure and create volume of bone. Good luck!

I took off my braces bottom teeth shifted bottom right incisor shifted forward overlaping top right incisor never got retainer had right bottom incisor removed got braces again to close gap now want gap opened for an implant can it be done

Hello, from you brief expalnation I see there are&nbsp; 2 problems.

	1. Pain

	2. Movement

	If implant and crown was done according to the protocol you should not experience pain. The only temporary incomfort is possible during final delivery of the crown if the crown has wider emergency profile and is pushing on the tissue. That usually goes away in 10-20 min. The same applies to the temporary restoration too. So if that was some temporary pain and then it went away and tissue looks healthy - you are good. If you still experiencing pain on the pressure that is not good. Implants are very unique restorations- if everything is well they do not heart, and if there is something wrong they also do not hurt a lot.. pain is the symptom of failure.

	Now movement of the tooth taht you are experiencing can be caused by 2 things: one - loose screw that's holding components of the implant crown together, and second - movement of the implant. If the screw is loose that is an easy fix for restorative specialist. If the implant is loose you will need a good surgeon to remove, graft the site and place another one (if it is possible). I had a 2nd implant done on tooth 8. went through a bone graft waited 4 months then implant placement and waited another 8 months. All seemed well - x-rays looked good. Abutment torqued ok and no movement according to the dentist. as soon as the dentist put a temp crown on I experienced some pain in the tooth with pressure. Neither my dentist of oral surgeon seem to know what is wrong. Had my bite adjusted many times and now the tooth moves slightly. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

If you want to get an implant in the pontic area of present bridge you need to find a restorative specialist - prosthodontist who will evaluate your over all dental situation and will advise you the best what suites your needs. Maybe there is a good reason why your dentist who fabricated a bridge did not offered you and implant because he/she wanted to minimize risks for you, as you are mentioning. If your only complain about your bridge is that abutment teeth are short rooted, I would highly recommend to get an opinion of specialist who will discuss pros and cons of leaving a&nbsp;perfectly fine bridge vs.&nbsp;sectioning ceramic bridge( high risk of fracture), undergoing bone grafting procedure (success and failure rates, time and financial involvement)&nbsp;and finally going through implant placement, osseointegration, restoration. Managing anterior esthetic case can be challenging sometimes and it is very important to find a doctor who has knowledge and skills to do that. I wish you all the best!

I have a three unit bridge with short rooted but not mobile crowned abutment teeth. I would like an implant in the pontic area but I want to minimize messing with these delicate abutment teeth and avoid the recrowning process. The bridge is porcelain. It is not about the money it is about minimizing risks. The abutment teeth may make it to be replaced by bioteeth if i minimize risks (10-15 years)!!! These teeth are in the front. A bone graft will be required in pontic area. Thanks

Is it possible to save crowns on a bridge to make room for an implant?

I agree with you, that at 16 years of age there should not be a necesity yet to whiten his teeth. So you can suggest: 1. to go for his annual cleaning at the dental office and if there is any plaque darkening his teeth&nbsp;it will be removed by a dental hygienist, 2. to buy over the counter whitening tooth paste. Those would be 2 most simple solutions that he might be happy with.

Hi, My 16 y/o son just got the braces off and wants to have his teeth whitened. I think it’s the teenage thing because his teeth look white enough to me, with no stains. I am hesitant for him to do the Zoom light or any other heavy duty strong chemical trays. He is still a kid and I don’t want him to have any long term side effects, like loosing the enamel etc. Any advice will be greately appreciated? Thank you!

As a Prosthodontist, I see from your story that you have 2 big&nbsp;problems. One is that you do not like how your final crowns look and second, they are recementing. The look of the final restorations normaly has to be approved by the patient before permanent cementation. If that did not happened with you then&nbsp;you have to address that when you will see your dentist. Crowns tend to recement if they are cemented with temporary cement and they usually do not fall of if they are cemented with permanent cement ( unless something during cementation process went wrong). There is another popssibility that your dentist wanted to try out these restorations because he or she was not sure if you would like it and cemented it with temporary cement, anticipating to finalize it later. But then again it is just my speculation, bottom line you need to see your dentist ASAP&nbsp;and get it resolved.

I had 6 dental crowns placed on my front teeth and they didn't feel it look no where near as good as my temp crowns. Within the first month my crowns started sliding all to the left and each dropping a bit more than the last tooth. They feel loose and today my two front crowns just fell off when sipping water. Is this normal within a month of getting crowns? I've tried every week for a month to get appt with my dentist whos in a big group practice but had no luck with appt or return call.

If caries is developing on another tooth surface than covered by veneer then it can be treated without removal of veneer. If caries is affecting tooth structure under the veneer then only your dentist can tell you after exam if he can repair it without removal of veneer or not.

My veneers are 15 years old and I have developed a cavity on posterior portion of the tooth at the gum line, can a filling be placed without removing the veneer?

I finally received my veneers and I think they look TOO perfect. Maybe because I'm not used to it? My friends all say they look "great!", but well, they're friends so I don't fully think they'd be 100% honest about it haha. Please look at my photos, I've included two "before", and several "after" in different lighting. On camera, I think they look okay, but in life, I feel as if the two front teeth may be too close [sounds odd, I know] Maybe I'm just not used to it?
