Dimitri Koumanis, MD

Dr. Koumanis performed a very comprehensive procedure for me and I would like to provide a comprehensive review of his practice.  During my first consultation with Dr. Koumanis when a possible surgery was discussed, he mentioned that he will treat me “as his own.” He was essentially citing Paracelsus’s vow “to love the sick, each and every one, as if they were your own.” Something said by a 16-th century physician. I thought it was remarkably striking for a plastic surgeon to uphold to the highest ethical standards of medical tradition. It was classy. From the time of my first visit with Dr. Koumanis, his practice was nothing but classy. There was absolutely no pressure, no coercion into surgery, and no rush to collect my money and to lock me into a potentially unwanted situation. This was a complete contrast with how other plastic surgeons operate. Another important feature of Dr. Koumanis’s practice is his private operating room, which implies that he has full control and takes complete responsibility for what is happening in that room. He has a stable team of professionals who have worked with each other for years. As a patient you know who your anesthesiologist and your operating room nurse are going to be prior to your surgery. To me this is very comforting. It is easier to delegate control to someone who is in full control of the situation without “meddling” of the middleman such as outpatient surgery centers, as is often the case with other plastic surgeons. I was conflicted about the surgery: I wanted it very much, and I feared it as much as I wanted it. It was my first surgery ever, and a major one, too (e.g., 4.5 hours under general anesthesia). In the operating room, Dr. Koumanis asked me how I felt and I honestly said that I was afraid. In just a few sentences, he comforted me. The day after my surgery, Dr. Koumanis took his time and came to see me on the weekend to make sure I was good to go home, as I was an out-of-town patient. Oh, and on the first evening after the surgery he called my caregiver to inquire how I was doing!.. My recovery has not been linear. I am not a particularly resilient person and I don’t take physical discomfort well. My surgeon has been there for me every time I needed him. I realized that it’s not just the surgery when you need to have a good surgeon. It’s the recovery as well. And my surgeon continues to deliver what he has promised me in the first place – “to treat me as his own.” For instance, I don’t have to go on the realself.com to ask questions. I have the luxury of writing to my surgeon who writes back to me and responds to all my concerns promptly. And, finally, it’s not just his surgical skills, it’s also his personality that made it possible for someone as anxious as me to endure the experience. When I was reading the reviews written by other patients he has treated, I was amazed how many of them regarded Dr. Koumanis as “compassionate.” And now I can testify that he is truly a compassionate doctor and a genuine person. It’s a blessing to be treated by someone like Dr. Koumanis.

Dr. Koumanis is a very skillful and talented surgeon. I am more than pleased with the results of my breast reduction. My migraines have greatly decreased in numbers and my back pain has also lessened. I highly recommend him. He and his staff were professional and very kind throughout the entire process.

Having surgery with Dr. Koumanis was as great of an experience as it could be. He follows through and follows up consistently and caringly. His work is high-end expertise, and he really takes the time, thought, and has the skill that that level demands. I felt confident that I was getting the best of care every step of the way. Dr. Koumanis and his staff were always so fast in responding each and every time I had questions or concerns, and were so thorough in their response. I would recommend Dr. Koumanis above any other surgeon I've known.

Dr. Koumanis is a compassionate and talented plastic surgeon. He performed a breast augmentation and tummy tuck for me and I cannot be more than happy. His office is beautiful and his office staff very professional and caring. I would recommend him to anyone.

I am writing to warn potential customers / paitients regarding the treatment I received from Dr. Dimitrious Koumanis at Sono Bello New Hyde Park location. I had abdominal and waist liposuction, but what transpired during the procedure was nothing short of a horrific experience. From the beginning of operation, I communicated to Dr. Koumanis that the numbing and pain medication was not effective and that I could still feel the pain of the needle. Despite my clear and repeated indications that the anesthesia was not working, Dr. Koumanis disregarded my distress and continued the procedure with aggressive force. I could feel everything, which caused excruciating pain, I felt as if i was being repeatedly stabbed. This experience was so traumatic that I genuinely feared for my life and thought of the possibility of my daughter losing me. The lack of empathy and professionalism displayed by Dr. Koumanis is unacceptable and has left me in severe pain and distress. No patient should have to endure such an ordeal, especially when entrusting their health and wellbeing to a medical professional. This experience has totally affected my perception of Sono Bello, especially as a first-time client who made a significant financial investment for this procedure. STAY AWAY FROM DR. KOUMANIS

First appointment today for consultation and insurance verification. Hoping to find some relief from heavy eyelids that cover my lashes. This is a family trait that hindered my family members as they got older. Some ending up with lids that would catch on the lashes and cause pain. I am considering bottom lid surgery also depending on the cost.
