Fillers and Other Injectables

128 Photos54 Reviews111 Q&A0 Offers
I have spent over two decades refining my technique with nonsurgical facial fillers and injectables. I am a national trainer in the use of many leading brands for physicians around the country, teaching my signature facial rejuvenation techniques. At my Boston-area practice, in both Back Bay and Northshore, I use a combination of injectables, customized to each patient, to smooth wrinkles, folds, and restore lost volume to the face. My unique liquid facelift is one of my most popular procedures and can be a wonderful alternative for patients who may not be ready for a surgical facelift. It primarily involves Sculptra, a long-lasting filler that stimulates new collagen production, along with other dermal fillers like Radiesse and Juvéderm, to restore facial volume and visible lift, and Botox to smooth the wrinkles you have and prevent new ones from forming. During a consultation, we’ll discuss your facial rejuvenation goals and discuss how injectables can help you achieve them.

Cheek, Chin and Jawline Enhancement

69 Photos43 Reviews92 Q&A0 Offers
For patients who are experiencing a loss of volume in the cheeks or sagging along the jawline and jowls, dermal fillers and injectables can be a wonderful alternative to procedures like cheek and chin implants, as they help temporarily restore and reshape the contours of the face without the need for invasive surgery. I use Sculptra and Juvéderm Voluma XC for cheek and chin enhancements in my Boston-area practice, in both Back Bay and Northshore to instantly create a nonsurgical facelift effect, restoring lost volume to create more defined contours in the face and to smooth out deep folds and wrinkles. Because of their thicker formulations, they are injected deeper into facial tissue to create long-lasting effects that reverse the signs of aging in the cheeks and chin.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Hello Alexandra98, My name is Jeanine, and I am a Master Medical Esthetician and Laser Technician with over 25 years of experience. I have been working with IPL systems since the very start of my career in aesthetics. Looking at your photos, I do see a bit of inflammation in that area. Since you’ve had IPL treatments before without any issues, it’s possible that this new practitioner is using a different type of machine. In the plastic surgery office where I work, we have two IPL devices from different companies, and I’ve noticed that one consistently creates more post-treatment inflammation than the other. From what I can see, your response looks normal for either a stronger machine or a more intense treatment. If you had red marks that matched the exact shape of the IPL crystal on the handpiece, I would be more concerned. This is why we do not recommend treating with IPL if you have a tan or have had recent sun exposure. It will increase the skin sensitivity because the IPL is attracted to melanin and tan is an elevated level of melanin all over. What you’re experiencing looks like a typical inflammatory response—something you might not be used to if your past treatments were gentler. Mild redness and slight puffiness for 24–48 hours post-procedure is actually a good sign that the treatment worked. Your body is simply responding to the light energy and using lymphatic activity to repair the tissue. Cool compresses may alleviate the discomfort and puffiness more quickly. I often tell my patients not to be surprised if they notice some puffiness the next day, especially around the eye area—it’s very common and should resolve on its own. I hope this helps! Best of luck! Jeanine Oteri, LME, CLT answering on behalf of Anna Petropoulos, MD FRCS Center for Classic Beauty Boston & Danvers, MA

Hello Nice768997, There are many non-surgical options available to treat under-eye skin laxity. In our office, our go-to treatments are Morpheus8, SylfirmX, and Scarlet RF—all of which use radiofrequency microneedling (RFMN) technology. These treatments stimulate new skin cell production, boost collagen regeneration, and firm existing collagen for smoother, tighter skin. Each session involves minimal downtime—typically 12 to 48 hours. You may experience redness and puffiness, which often resolve within a few hours. The next morning, the treated area may appear blotchy or slightly swollen, but this typically improves throughout the day. For best results, we recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by annual maintenance sessions. Radiofrequency energy can also help tighten dilated lymphatic channels, reducing fluid retention and tightening loose skin—without melting the natural fat pads that provide volume under the eyes. As always, it's important to choose a provider with the proper experience and professional training. Being in skilled, knowledgeable hands is key to achieving safe, effective results! I hope this helps! Best of Luck! Jeanine Oteri, LME, LT answering on behalf of Anna Petropoulos, MD FRCS Center for Classic Beauty Boston & Danvers, MA

Dear An, Thank you for your questions. Yes absolutely, Morpheus is definitely a good solution for this problem along with other forms of RFMN (Rediofrequency micro needling) such as Sylfirm or Scarlet. Problems like this are routinely sent to our office from other providers and we have successfully been dealing with them for at least 9 years using RFMN - my technician has 22 years experience and knows what depths and settings to use to melt the existing filler causing the edema, tighten the dilated lymphatic channels that are collecting the fluid, and also tighten the loose skin, all without melting the existing fat. Every patient is different and good clinical judgment is necessary to evaluate their tissues and determine the right treatments settings so it is very important for you to go to a proper establishment under the guidance of an experienced board certified facial plastic surgeon or dermatologist. RFMN is not only good for filler induced water balloons or fluid retention under the eyes, but also good for keeping our eyelids appearing youthful with annual maintenance treatments since our eyelid skin sags at least 1 mm per year as we age. I hope this information was helpful for you An and wishing you best of luck in your quest ! Hello and thank you for your question! At 43 and in the middle of weight loss, it’s totally normal to worry about loose skin — and you do have safe options! -Microneedling (no RF): Safe for all skin tones, no light/heat, improves texture and firmness. -RF Microneedling (e.g., Morpheus8): Possible with caution — your ankle metal likely won’t interfere, but a provider should screen you carefully. -Topicals & supplements: Retinol-based firming creams and collagen peptides can help improve skin tone gradually. -Massage & lymphatic drainage: Gentle, natural ways to improve skin appearance and support circulation. -Surgery (if needed): A tummy tuck is an option for more significant laxity post-weight loss. Avoid for now: -Lasers, IPL, and light-based devices (due to photosensitive meds and risk of hyperpigmentation). You’ll get the best results with a provider experienced in treating skin of color and sensitive cases. Best of luck in your journey! Hello and thank you for your great question! At 33, it’s common to start noticing changes like marionette lines, lower face volume loss, and early jowling. Based on the history you have provided, we’d likely want to focus on longer-lasting or regenerative options. Biostimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse can stimulate collagen production for more structural support and subtle volume improvement that lasts longer than traditional filler. Thread lifts (especially around the marionette and pre-jowl area) can help reposition tissue and soften early sagging. Microneedling with RF (like Morpheus8, SylfirmX) can tighten skin and improve texture in the lower face with minimal downtime. Fat transfer may be an option if you're looking for something permanent and are open to a surgical route. Best results often come from combining treatments—especially when fillers alone aren’t giving you the longevity or lift you're after. Best of luck in your journey! Thermage with goretex implants?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hello and thank you for your question! Yes, you can likely have Thermage with cheek Gore-Tex implants, but there are some precautions to consider. Gore-Tex is non-metallic and doesn’t conduct heat, so it’s generally safer than metal implants when using radiofrequency. However, Thermage does deliver heat to deeper skin layers, and this could potentially cause localized swelling, discomfort, or tissue tightening around the implant, which may slightly affect its position if not securely placed. You’re likely a good candidate if: -Your implants are well-healed, stable, and placed deep enough. -You haven’t had issues like shifting, inflammation, or visible edges. -Your provider is experienced and avoids aggressive passes directly over the implants. It’s best to consult both your aesthetic provider and, if possible, the surgeon who placed the implants to ensure personalized safety. Best of luck! Ozempic use after facelift and revision?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hello and thank you for your question. "Ozempic face" refers to facial fat loss, often due to weight loss on semaglutide. However, even with minimal weight loss (like your 5 lbs), some patients experience disproportionate facial volume loss, likely due to individual fat distribution or sensitivity. A facelift will tighten and lift tissue, but it won’t prevent further volume loss if the underlying cause (Ozempic) continues. So yes—resuming Ozempic after a facelift could lead to recurrence of facial hollowing. If you're not getting significant glycemic or weight benefit from Ozempic, and cosmetic effects are concerning, it’s reasonable to consider switching to another diabetes medication. Options include: Dulaglutide (Trulicity) – another GLP-1 with less facial fat loss reported SGLT2 inhibitors (e.g., Jardiance) – weight-neutral or mild loss DPP-4 inhibitors (e.g., Januvia) – weight-neutral Discuss this with an endocrinologist and, if planning surgery, a facial plastic surgeon familiar with GLP-1 effects. From the non-surgical perspective, treatments like RF-microneedling and Sculptra can combat or even prevent some of these Ozempic-related changes- that may be worth looking into! Best of luck! Hello and thank you for your question! Ozempic is the FDA-approved brand-name version of semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk with strict quality control. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved, but it can be very safe when made by a reputable compounding pharmacy. The key is that your provider does their research—using only trusted, accredited pharmacies that follow high-quality standards. Should you worry? Not if you're under the care of a knowledgeable provider who ensures the compound is the correct form (semaglutide base, not salt) and comes from a certified pharmacy. When done right, many people use compounded semaglutide safely and effectively. If you’re 25 lbs overweight, you may qualify for Wegovy (FDA-approved for weight loss), but compounded versions can be a good alternative when prescribed responsibly. Best of luck! Hello and thank you for your question! At 32, it's not uncommon to start noticing midface volume loss and early signs of skin laxity. The flattening of the midface and changes under the eyes you mentioned are typically due to a combination of fat pad descent, bone remodeling, and early collagen loss. Here are some treatment options based on your concerns: 1. Non-Surgical Lifting & Skin Tightening Morpheus8 (RF Microneedling): Helps tighten the skin, stimulate collagen, and slightly improve volume over time, especially around the eyes and midface. Thermage FLX: Uses radiofrequency to tighten and lift skin by stimulating deeper collagen remodeling—ideal for subtle lifting in the mid and lower face, including pre-jowls. These are great options if you're not quite ready for surgery and want to prevent further sagging. 2. Volume Restoration Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: Can restore midface volume, improve under-eye hollowing, and offer a natural lift when done conservatively. Sculptra: A collagen stimulator that works gradually to restore lost volume and improve skin quality over time—excellent for long-term structural support. 3. Blepharoplasty vs. Botox Upper Blepharoplasty is usually reserved for true skin redundancy. If you're unsure, a skilled provider can assess whether it's skin laxity or brow position that's contributing. Botox can gently lift the brows and open the eyes—ideal if you're not yet ready for surgery and have mild heaviness. 4. Endoscopic Midface Lift This surgical option is indeed trending in younger patients who have noticeable midface descent but good skin quality. It repositions deeper tissues rather than adding volume. It's best suited for someone who: Has minimal to moderate sagging Wants a longer-term structural lift without filler Is not seeing enough improvement from non-surgical options If your primary concerns are volume loss and early skin laxity, starting with non-invasive options like Morpheus8, Thermage, or subtle filler may provide the results you're looking for without downtime. If you're already noticing significant descent and want longer-term results with minimal maintenance, then a consult with a facial plastic surgeon about an endoscopic midface lift might be worthwhile. A personalized consultation with an experienced injector and/or facial surgeon can help determine what will give you the best aesthetic outcome. It’s not always about doing the most—it’s about doing what fits your anatomy and goals. Best of luck in your journey! Hello and thank you for your question! From your description and photos, you're likely dealing with a combination of residual volume and skin laxity. If manually pulling your skin improves your jawline shape, the most effective and lasting solution would likely be a lower facelift or deep-plane neck lift. This surgical option lifts and tightens deeper tissues along the jawline and neck, removes excess skin, and refines the contour for a more feminine and defined look. For a less invasive approach, radiofrequency-based skin tightening treatments like FaceTite or AccuTite can target residual fat and improve skin laxity, often combined with small-volume liposuction. Results build over time and can last for several years. Another minimally invasive option to consider is a Miracu thread lift, which uses long-lasting PDO threads to lift and reposition the skin along the jawline and lower face. While not permanent, this treatment can provide immediate lift with collagen-stimulating effects that continue to improve the skin over several months. It’s a good option if you're not ready for surgery but want visible improvement. Lastly, if your jaw appears wide due to overactive masseter muscles, Botox in that area can slim the face over time by reducing muscle bulk, giving a softer and more contoured jawline. If you're seeking a tighter, more defined look that mimics the effect you see when pulling your skin back, a lower facelift, FaceTite, or Miracu thread lift—possibly combined with masseter Botox—would offer the best results. A consultation with a facial plastic surgeon or aesthetic provider familiar with advanced contouring options will help determine the most appropriate plan for your goals. SmartGraft Really Works!

I came in for SmartGraft hair restoration. From the time I came for the appointment, there was no pain involved (only mild relaxer was given). The day of the procedure was easier than going to the dentist. Only discomfort was the donor site healing process, but even then it was very tolerable. The entire team was amazing! Everyone greeted me politely and I am so grateful to have everything go so smoothly. I am now seeing hair growth! My hair looks thicker than it has for many years and I am so happy! SmartGraft really works!!!

Neosculpt Treatment

I tried the Emsculpt-neo treatment for Abs twice and think it was really effective. You have slightly sore muscles the next days and feel your stomach is really tight. The procedure is not painful at all, in the beginning it is a bit uncomfortable but after a few minutes you get used to it. I would really recommend it as a add on to your regular exercising.
