Very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable

I am 57 years old, and 6 days post op. Dr. Leahy and his nurse Maggie were very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. They helped me get approval for my health insurance to cover the procedure. He removed 500+ grams from left, and 600+ grams from right. I am very happy! I am including before and after photos with this review.

You Don't Have to Live with Skin Rolls Caused by Surgical Scars!

I spent a decade wearing baggy shirts over my slacks and leggings so the flabby skin over a c-section scar wouldn't show. I literally changed my clothing style to hide the roll of skin on my lower abdomen due to the scar. A friend had a similar issue and told me Dr. Hodge had done an abdominoplasty. Her abdomen was now flat and she was thrilled! I immediately made an appointment and within two...

Q: En bloc explant with lift 1 year ago gone wrong, why are my breasts deformed? (Photos)
Answered by Dr. SteenNovember 22, 2023

A: Hello and thank you for your question! It is always best to be examined by a board-certified plastic surgeon in person. It is always more challenging to evaluate only photos, but it appears that the last photo posted is with the 600cc silicone implants in place. These implants appear large for your body size. Over-sized implants can distort a patient's anatomy. In addition, the large implants stretch your skin. Stretching of the skin plus natural aging of the skin can result in poor soft tissue retraction once the implants are removed later in life. In addition, an en bloc capsulectemy is an aggressive procedure that can distortion of the breast post-operatively, especially in thinner women.

Q: Is there a limit to how much can be removed in a Breast Reduction?
Answered by Dr. SteenNovember 22, 2023

A: Hello and thank you for your question! It is always best to be examined in person by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Individual planning for breast reduction patients is very important and the amount of breast tissue removed is patient specific. This amount will vary based on a person's body habitus, breast size, and desired bra cup size. However, there is a limit to how much can be removed during a surgery to help preserve the form of the breast and protect the blood supplies to the nipples.

Some patients have very large and heavy breasts and the risk of loss of the nipple is high enough to plan for a "free nipple graft" procedure. This procedure allows for a greater reduction of breast tissue because the nipple no longer relies on the underlying pedicle blood supply. However, there are significant disadvantages of this procedure permanent lack of nipple sensation, no ability to lactate, and lack of nipple projection. Typically this procedure would be reserved for very large breasts requiring large reductions.

Q: Trying to make a decision on implant size and profile
Answered by Dr. SteenNovember 17, 2023

A: Hello and thank you for your question! I would recommend seeking a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can discuss your wants and expectations as well as examine you in person. Each patient is an individual and a particular implant that looks great on one person may not be the best choice for another person. Remember that implant size is just a number!

Having discussions with patients about what they hope to achieve combined with planning surgery to your particular dimensions to create a personalized plan with an experienced surgeon is the best way to achieve the results you are hoping for.

Q: Breast reduction - do I need to lose weight first? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. SteenNovember 16, 2023

A: Thank you for your question! It is always best to be assessed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in person. It is typically recommended to complete your weight loss journey before undergoing any body contouring surgery. Reaching your weight goal will help to decrease the risks of surgery while also improving your cosmetic outcome.

Q: Interested in breast implant removal - is it necessary? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. SteenNovember 16, 2023

A: Hello and thank you for your question! It is always best to be evaluated by a board-certified plastic surgeon in person.

Common reasons for re-operation include if patients are having difficulty with pain, masses, capsular contracture, fluid collections, etc or if patients would like to change the cosmetic outcome of their breasts. If patients are not having any problems then there is not necessarily a need to operate. The FDA does not recommend removal of textured Allergan implants without symptoms of BIA-ALCL.
