Sutures are used to keep the tissues connected so that they can heal quickly.  Many times, sutures get dislodged by either your tongue or a toothbrush and oftentimes the gums will bleed due to this.  Your body has a good ability to remodel and reshape itself in general so it is not too alarming to have an extra flap of skin.  It is important to contact your Dentist to make sure that that flap of tissue doesn't need adjustments/ removed.   With a flap of tissue, patients usually play with the area more. In general, do not worry too much about dislodging the suture.  It should be an easy fix either by an adjustment by your dentist or as part of normal healing. Good luck

Hello, had a surgery for my future implant tooth and i had 2 stitches on my gums. Second day i realize that the one stitch wasnt fit right. And after launch i was bleeding all the time, the stitch left and my gum hangs What should i do?

It may be worth a visit to your the Dentist that placed the implant.&nbsp; I found that a surgical area can&nbsp;become more sensitive if the tongue is pushing and playing in the area (especially at night time and if your not wearing a treatment partial).&nbsp; It is encouraging that the are is not red or inflamed.&nbsp; However, since you had the tooth pulled and the implant placed in a single appointment, there could still be an issue.&nbsp; Return to your Dentist and request a Dental radiograph just to make sure. Currently on prescribed Amoxyllin 500 mg + Ibuprofen &amp; paracetamol. I must admit that I feel it more uncomfortable now that the stitches are coming undone. I find it hard to chew on the other side as it tends to put pressure on the left side where implant has been done on side upper jaw. I stick to soups and soft foods. My partner had a quick look. He mentions the gum looks normal gum colour with blue stitches undone. How long till that uncomfortable &amp; painful feeling settle, it's now 7 days. Thanks

I had an extraction, bone graft and implant done in one go. Now stitches are dissolving, I tend to feel it more. Is it normal?

In general, there are no limitations to travel after&nbsp;you have had&nbsp;an implant placed.&nbsp; Being in Naples Florida, we see a lot of visitors from the North here.&nbsp;&nbsp; Most of the emergencies that we see result from a temporary coming loose or chipping not an implant failure. There is a very rare chance that integration (healing) of the implant is compromised.&nbsp; We know from the studies that at 6 weeks, the implant is still going through a healing process and most healing issues will be identified around this time period.&nbsp; At my office, a radiograph is offered at 6 weeks to ensure that proper healing is occurring. If you are worried or have clinical redness around the area, then it would be work a visit to your surgeon prior to jumping on the plane.&nbsp; However, 99.9% of the time, you should be fine during your visit down here. I had dental implants about 7 weeks ago. Is it OK to fly to Florida? Would I have any problems?

From the brief information that you provided: There are many factors that need looked at prior to restoring an implant placed 12 years ago.&nbsp; 1.Is the implant in an esthetic zone (Front) or is the implant in the back of the jaw and not visible?&nbsp; 2. Adjacent teeth can shift creating a spacing issue or compromising the final result 3. Supportive bone of the implant may be compromised or resorbed away 4. Continued development or growth of facial contours/ jaw structures could result in a compromised esthetic final result. The big implant companies 12 years ago were Calcitek (Zimmer Medical), Branemark (NobelBiocare), 3I and Straumann.&nbsp; They most likely used either a .048 or .050 hex driver. An experienced Surgeon can narrow down which fixture was placed.&nbsp; Using Google, even if you didn't have the original surgeon's name,&nbsp;you usually can track down the office that helped you. Another place to start, go to the supporting website attached to this response.&nbsp;&nbsp; It can you narrow down the manufacturer and help order the right parts. Good luck.

Two dentists have told me that without the specific manufacturer and specs (cannot be obtained), I will have to start over, and let them extract a perfectly healthy implant. Isn't there some way to identify the existing implant through x-rays?

10-12 year old Implant, never had a crown, can I get one now?

There a number of different options that you have to either mask or correct the esthetic issue.&nbsp; Depending on the how deep the implant is placed in the gum and if the implant is healthy without any bone loss, the best place to start is by having your surgeon complete a radiographic survey including conventional radiographs and a Dental CT scan (3D x-ray).&nbsp; If the implant is healthy, then you have a few options: 1. Remove the crown, bulk up the soft tissue thickness above the implant (unpredictable), place a new temporary crown, and evaluate the area prior to restoring a new crown. 2. The laboratory can fabricate a new crown that uses pink ceramics next to the current gingival level. This will reduce the appearance and dull the overall negative esthetics 3. You can remove the crown, bury the implant, (add/ bulk the soft tissue if necessary) and consider an all ceramic anterior bridge.&nbsp;&nbsp; 4. Removal of the implant will most likely result in additional soft/ hard tissue shrinkage.&nbsp; You can consider going this route but don't anticipate your surgeon to be to predictably grow the bone back with a procedure called (distraction osteogenesis) which is unpredictable in the wrong hangs. I have one front tooth that has been replaced with an implant. The implant goes much too high and does not match the other front tooth. The implant is also the wrong color and does not match my other teeth. Can anything be done?

You should ask your dentist to take a new x-ray.&nbsp; Soreness to a tooth can be from a variety of different reasons: 1. Occlusion is still high. Radiograph may show a widened ligament space around the tooth 2. Root canal did not properly seal the tooth.&nbsp; ie. Accessory canal, incomplete fill of canal, ect. 3. Cracked tooth.&nbsp; If the crack is large enough, then the radiograph will show bone loss around the crack 4. Make sure that you do not rule out muscle irritations.&nbsp; The muscle of mastication can be inflamed 5. Referred pain.&nbsp; The sore tooth could be a different tooth As you can tell, there could be more than one reason for your continued sensitivities.&nbsp; Hope this helps.

I had an old crown removed and told I needed a root canal because of decay. I had root canal in November and two weeks later a néw crown. I had the bite adjusted twice because of pain. Pain got better after adjustment but never totally went away. I can now bite down on it and it feels okay but about 30-45 minutes after biting down on it it starts to ache. Dentist says to wait as he feels discomfort will lessen over time.

Why am I still having occasional pain after root canal and crown?

A healthy Dental implants is integrated in alveolar bone and does not move.&nbsp; If the implants moves and it does not have the restoration on it then: 1. The implant is failed and needs to be removed 2. The healing cap on the implant is loose and should be tightened by the surgeon or dentist If the implant crown (final restoration) moves, then consider: 1. The abutment screw is loose and needs tightened 2. The abutment screw is broken and the implant needs removed/ replaced (rare) 3. The implant is failed and needs to be removed. Please visit either the surgeon that placed the implant or the dentist that placed the final restoration.&nbsp; They will most likely take an x-ray before determining the best treatment for you

Feel there is movement in tooth after dental implant. Any suggestions?

There are so many things to consider before determining if Implants are your best option.&nbsp; Depending on the amount of active infection around the tooth, level of bone loss and amount of available bone to even place a dental implant, your question is difficult to answer.&nbsp; Make sure that a Dental CT scan is taken prior to making any decisions.&nbsp; This 3 dimensional scan will help the dentist determine the amount and quality of bone PRIOR to the removal of any teeth.&nbsp; If there are deficiencies, then an implant may be difficult to place.&nbsp; Never consider placing crowns or veneers on a tooth with active Periodontal disease (gingival inflammation) because the bone can continue to deteriorate leaving an unsightly esthetic outcome.&nbsp; Getting a second opinion from a Board Certified Periodontist may be the best place to start.

He wants to extract three teeth and replace with two implants and a bridge. I am concerned about all the negative information on the internet regarding possible health problems and oral cancer. I don't feel my front tooth moving and wondered whether I could just have veneers or my crown replaced.

My dentist has recommended two implants as my one front tooth has bone loss. Any suggestions?
