I had a NovaThread PDO lift on 5/17/18. The procedure took about an hour and I had 10 threads put into my lower face. They used an injectable anesthetic and Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) which I self-administered as needed. The procedure wasn’t very painful – mostly a feeling of pressure or fullness as the threads were put in. The wounds were tiny – little pin pricks that looked like blemishes.
Some places say this can be a “lunchtime” procedure but I don’t think so. I’d suggest doing it on a Thursday or Friday and taking the weekend to let things settle down. I was able to go to the grocery store afterwards and just looked like I had bad skin. But I did have a little swelling and I was sore so I didn’t want to put on makeup.
You will notice an immediate difference that is supposed to get better as the sutures dissolve and are replaced with collagen. For post-procedure pain two regular strength Tylenol was sufficient and I only needed it for about 48 hours. Things to note: for a week to 10 days you can’t sleep on your side or face, no vigorous exercise, and you can’t open your mouth very wide (e.g. no big apples). I found chewing uncomfortable for the first couple of days and stuck to softer food.
If you have wrinkly areas like your chin, they can put in short sutures in a cross-hatch pattern to smooth it out. I found those results much better (more even) than filler and with no bruising. I was very happy with the smoothing below my cheekbones in particular. I also like how my face stays in place when I bend over during yoga – no more Shar-Pei face.
