QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Hi there, This is a relatively common complication/side effect of a rhinoplasty. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the potential causes of this. In my experience, there are a few common reasons. 1) The healing process itself. As your surgeon noted, its possible and likely this will even out 2) The scarring of the incision - you may have had an incision around the inside edge of your nostril, and one side may be tighter than the other sometimes this will relax over time; other times, treatment with a steroid injection may help 3) Its possible your nostrils were like this pre-surgery, so its important to consider that 4) It's possible that one side was stitched a little tighter, and therefore, you may need a minor revision In my experience, many people realize that their nostrils were like this in the first place and may not be easily changed. It's a challenging procedure to do if your nostrils were this way before surgery, but some things can be done. So, as you can see, many potential causes will resolve on their own, so I always tell my patients to be careful and patient.

Hey, Thanks for the questions. I can see in your photos the tip that droops down. I'm just curious: does it get worse when you smile? The truth is, I do not think that this can be improved with filler. For one, filler can be risky in the tip of the nose. I do not recommend it. Second, I do not think it will offer much benefit and may even worsen the tip's appearance. Surgery can be very effective with this problem and can improve the droopy appearance.

Hi there, thanks for the question Looking at the pictures, I dont seem much of a bump that would concern me as a physician. If you do notice a change in your nose and you are sure it wasnt broken (it doesnt sound like it). you may have developed some swelling under the injury site and in almost all cases, after a few months it should resolve. It is very rare to stay perminant from and injury like that

Hi there, The nasal exam in the context of breathing trouble is one of the most complex exams we do. It seems like it should be simple, but it can be pretty complex. Looking at your nose from the bottom reveals just one aspect of nasal obstruction. However, it is pretty obvious that you do have an obstruction on the left. This is likely due to one of 2 things, a medialized Crural Footplate or a caudal septal deviation, or a combination. There are possibly other things happening internally, so my best advice is to have an ENT take a look in your nose

Hi there, I think generally speaking, all Rhinoplasty surgeons take photos. If someone didn't take photos prior to surgery for cosmetic rhinoplasty, it would certainly be concerning. Also, As a Rhinoplasty Surgeon, I always have my primary, secondary and tertiary plan formed well ahead of surgery date. Sometimes small things come up the day of surgery, but almost always, I have my plan formulated and communicated to patients well before the surgery date. I would certainly recommend asking your surgeon about this prior to committing to surgery. Perhaps it was just an oversight.

Thanks for the question, I think there are two issues to discuss 1) The numbness - This is very common, especially after an open Rhinoplasty. I know patients in which it took over 1 year for this to return to normal. Its certainly best to wait it out. The other issue, is in most situations apart from waiting, there is no treatment for this. 2) Saddle Nose - I don't see a true saddle nose and I see perhaps, a but of fullness over the bone of your nose. This still may be boney remodeling as it can take over a year and sometimes 2 years or more for the bone to fully re-model. The best advice, discuss with your surgeon if steroid injection is right vs waiting vs a revisions surgery. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the question. I can see what you are referring to on the frontal picture, but the difficulty is that the photo is taken so close to your face, its somewhat difficult to see all the details. With this in mind however, it does appear as the tip is twisted to the left. It looks like this is due to a high septal twist, but I may be incorrect due to the photo. I'm not sure filler would be the best option for this as it may not work and is considered a high risk area. The best option is to talk to your surgeon and discuss options. It is a problem that can be iimproved

Hi there, thanks for the question, asymmetries after a rhinoplasty are one of the most stressful aspects of healing, for both the patient and surgeon. Its really hard to wait for healing to complete, but in some situations we can predict what is likely going to happen. Based on the photos you provided, there seems to be excess projection of the right lower lateral cartilage (the tip) compared to the left. That gives the impression that the tip is twisted and asymmetrical. sometimes this can be improved with steroid injections and other times a revision is required. Like always, the best first step is to see what your surgeon says after a physical exam. Its often difficult to tell on photos. The good news is, the rest of the surgery looks great and this is often something that can be improved.

Hey there, thanks for the great question. This is a common conversation I have with patients as many worry about the appearance of their nose as these stages progress. In summary, there are 4 typical phases 1. Hematoma formation (week 1)- This happens right after you cut the bone. The blood that fills the area around the bone stats the process of healing 2. Fibrocartilaginous callus formation (week 2) - This is when the blood releases chemicals that start the process of forming a soft 'scar' on the bone. This is the phase you start to see fullness form over the healing bone. The cut bone is still soft and starts to get more firm 3. Bony callus formation (week 3 - 6) - Your body starts to dissolve the soft 'scar' or callus and replace it with thick, immature bone. It can get more full and hard. This is the formation of the stronger bone 4. Bone remodeling (7 weeks up to 1 - 2 years) - the long and frustrating part of bone healing. It takes a long time for your bony to remodel the bone. Everyone goes through it and we are all different. The body dissolves extra-bone from the callus and makes it strong and smooth.

Uneven definition or swelling? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Hi there, thanks for the question. Overall, it looks like you had some great changes! I do however, see what you are referring to. It is always difficult to tell from photos, but my advice would be to ask your surgeon if taping may help. This can sometimes help keep the tip and nose balanced after surgery while it heals. But, it is still very early, so the most important thing is to follow up with your surgeon.

Breathing Easy Thanks to Dr. Bonaparte

I can't emphasize enough how exceptional Dr. James Bonaparte is as a doctor and surgeon! For years, I struggled with breathing issues, and I had a septoplasty/rhinoplasty procedure done six months ago. After visiting numerous doctors, Dr. Bonaparte truly stood out for his dedication and thoroughness. He took the time to listen to my concerns and fully understand my situation. He was incredibly patient, meeting with me multiple times before my surgery to ensure I was comfortable with the plan. His attentiveness and willingness to explain everything made all the difference. On the day of my surgery, I felt calm, thanks to the amazing care provided by the entire team. The staff at Dr. Bonaparte's office are truly outstanding, and the hospital surgical team was consistently kind, attentive, and fully supportive throughout the entire process. I was initially nervous about how my nose would look, as I didn’t want to lose my distinctive features. However, Dr. Bonaparte is clearly a talented surgeon! He not only improved my breathing but also made my nose seamlessly blend with my facial features without altering my appearance. The results are subtle yet beautiful, and I've received countless compliments! If you're seeking a doctor or feeling uncertain, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Bonaparte. He is an extraordinary surgeon, and I am beyond grateful to have had him as my doctor. Thank you, Dr. Bonaparte!

Highly recommended, rhinoplasty healing from went very well

I want to start by saying if I could give more than a 5 start I would! Dr. Bonaparte is the best surgeon in the Ottawa region. I had a closed rhinoplasty performed in October 2023 and words cant describe how wonderful the experience was with Dr. Bonaparte. It was my first cosmetic surgery and I was extremely stressed about the surgery and the results. The first appointment Dr. B made me feel very comfortable and explained the surgery and what it involves. He answered all my questions honestly and with clarity. On the day of the surgery I was extremely stressed and he help me through the entire processes and made me feel so comfortable. Healing from the surgery went very well and I was not in pain for the entire recovery. The results!! The results were even better than I could of dreamed of. Dr. Bonaparte made my dream come true. My highest recommendation - couldn't be happier with the result

I recently underwent septorhinoplasty with Dr. Bonaparte. I'm extremely happy with the result as he did a wonderful job and I wish I had seen him sooner. I highly recommend Dr. Bonaparte because in addition to being professional and extremely qualified and talented, he is also empathetic and friendly. I was very discouraged by the consultations I had previously with other surgeons in Ottawa. I felt like a number as they didn't even take the time to discuss my expectations. I felt rushed during my consultations and was quickly quoted for the operation. Quite the opposite was Dr Bonaparte who took the time during my consultation to listen to my expectations and to detail what he could archive. Talking to him made me feel so confident and reassuring. In my opinion, he is more than an expert in his field, he is a genius. I will always be very grateful for the incredible work he did. I couldn't be happier with the decision to entrust my operation to Dr. Bonaparte. Again, I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a rhinoplasty/septoplasty. His passion and expertise shine through, making him a true master in his field. His staff is also very kind and welcoming, what a great team!

My face is balanced, symmetrical, and natural-looking

It’s difficult for me to put into words how much Dr Bonaparte has helped me. I came to him with a difficult case and a lengthy surgical history. I’d been told by many other surgeons that my situation was utterly unfixable and to simply accept it. Dr B did not see it this way. He answered all my questions and concerns honestly and gave me a clear idea of what we could accomplish. He was clear on what he could do or not do. He was kind. He was reassuring. He was funny. He was punctual! His work is exquisite. My face is balanced, symmetrical, and natural-looking. People I’ve been friends with for 20 years don't notice that I’ve had anything done (in a good way)! His work blew my highest expectations out of the water. He is a gift to have in our little unassuming city of Ottawa. If you need facial work, HE IS THE GUY. I cannot recommend him highly enough. This surgery was more than physical repair, it’s had a positive ripple effect on the rest of my life. The psychological impact of not dealing with facial irregularities is immeasurable. I’m more confident, I’m happier, and friendlier. If you’re questioning whether to do it, meet with him. He is the best.

My nose is already looking like I have an Instagram filter on

I went to Dr. Bonaparte wanting an “instagram” looking nose as opposed to super natural/minimal look and he gave me exactly that in the most natural way. I was thinking of going overseas to achieve a more dramatic result as that look is not very popular here. However, thank god I didn’t - I am currently within my first week post cast removal and my nose is already looking like I have an instagram filter on. (With some swelling of course) My tip is already showing that’s it’s refined, I have a beautiful slope and the nose is skinnier and smaller everything I could have dreamed of! I am so happy I didn’t have to go overseas and take risks in order to get these beautiful results! Best decision to stay here, be safe and use Dr.Bonaparte :)

The outcome appears exceptionally natural - profoundly satisfied

I underwent rhinoplastic surgery performed by Dr. Bonaparte, and I must express my profound satisfaction with the results. The outcome appears exceptionally natural, closely resembling a non-surgical transformation – a crucial aspect for those of us undergoing this process. My nose had suffered deformation and lost its shape due to past incidents, but thanks to this procedure, it now not only boasts an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but it has also significantly improved my self-assurance. Moreover, the surgery has had a transformative impact on my respiratory function. As many individuals who have undergone rhinoplastic surgery can attest, the enhancement of breathing is a paramount consideration. In this regard, Dr. Bonaparte's work has been truly remarkable. I find myself in awe of his skills, almost to the point of considering him a magician with his extraordinary surgical abilities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Bonaparte for restoring not only the aesthetics of my nose but also the quality of my life. His expertise and precision have elevated him to the status of a true hero in my eyes.

In awe of how painless and easy this process has been

I will do an update later as I’m only a two days post-op but wow. What a smooth and completely pain free experience. I knew Dr. Bonaparte was the best BUT couldn’t have imagined such an easy process. From the admin staff, to the hospital staff … I felt so comfortable, heard and understood. All parts of the process and procedure were made clear to me. I could ask any and as many questions with everyone happy to answer! Debra at ODC was lovely to work with. Angie at CP hospital was so kind. Now, Dr.B. He is so laid back and calm natured. He made me feel so comfortable from my very first consult. I’m only a few days post op but have had minimal bruising and almost no swelling (mind you I did have a pretty minor rhino). I have had zero pain minus a small sore throat from intubation. I can see the difference to the tip of my nose, cannot yet see the dorsal hump that was shaved down BUT can tell from the shape of the cast that it’s going to look awfully straight! I’m so happy!! I will update with photos once I’m a bit more healed. I’m in awe of how painless and easy this process has been. If anyone has been debating doing something like this… 10/10 recommend Dr. B and his team!

I had my under chin fat removed and my jawline contoured

I've always had fat under my chin, even at my lowest weight. I've always felt self conscious about it because no amount of weightless could remove it. With my slightly recessed chin, the fat is much more obvious. I previously tried 2 rounds of Belkyra at $1500 each, and it made no difference. I went to see Dr. Bonaparte because I was frustrated with my jawline and chin fat, and how much more round it made my face appear. After a quick consultation, we set a surgery date. This was my first ever surgery, and I felt supported, cared for, and comfortable every step of the way. All of my questions were answered and I was confident in my choice. For the same cost of 2 failed rounds of Belkyra, I was able to get my under chin fat removed and get my jawline contoured. After only a few days, I was thrilled with the results. I'm patiently awaiting the swelling to go down in the upcoming months. It's amazing what something small can do for your confidence. Dr. Bonaparte also recommended massater botox to continue to slim my jawline, which I will explore in the future. I am also considering a chin implant for my recessed chin to further the results from the chin liposuction.
