Dear Kandy, 5 hours for cosmetic surgery is not necessarily too much time to complete these procedures under a lighter anesthesia if you are in good health. In our practice, our board certified physician anesthesiologists perform both sedation and general anesthesia often for combined cosmetic procedures. One additional thing I always tell patientst to consider is how well they will tolerate lying flat for more than 3 hours? That appears to be a cut off for most of patients. If they have a history of back pain or difficulty lying flat I usually recommend general anesthesia as they won't be prone to move or complain of discomfort during the surgery. Best of luck with your procedures. Amit Kochhar, MD Assistant Professor Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California
Dear Kavyklan, Thank you for your question. From your photos it looks like you underwent a direct brow lift with the goal of hiding the scars in your natural forehead skin creases. Discoloration, pain and discomfort below the incisions is normal for several weeks to months. During the surgery we may stretch the nerves that provide sensation to the forehead and the tingling sensation you describe is likely the nerve regeneration that is taking place which is also normal during the post op period. While it generally resolves after several months, depending the extent of the procedure, it may take up to one year to go away. To prevent noticeable scars I would suggest applying sunscreen, SPF 50 or higher, whenever you are exposed to sunlight. You may also want to speak with your surgeon about using a scar prevention ointment, silicon sheeting or laser/light therapy which can all help to improve the appearance of post operative scars or redness.
