34 Yr Old Mom to 3 boys, Struggled with Being Overweight my Entire Adult Life

I've been lurking on this site since December 2016. After just getting the sleeve done on Wednesday April 18th 2018 I've finally decided to become a real part of the community by sharing my story. I looked into getting the gastric sleeve done in Mexico but ultimately decided I really wanted to recover at home with my family. My insurance BCBS would of covered half of it if I went through all the hoops they set out. Instead we ended up paying for the whole thing ourselves, my husband and I. I was able to get a surgery date for two weeks after my initial consult because of that. I thought hard about getting the procedure for over a year now. With all my accumulating health problems I knew it was time I did something drastic. I was ashamed, I had hit my highest weight of 300 pounds and knew I did not want to gain anymore. I had done weight watchers off and on over the last few years with only losing a maximum of 10 pounds ever I knew it wasn't going to work for me. I have sleep apnea, diagnosed while pregnant with my first child in 2008. I have degenerative disc disease in my cervical and lumbar spine, sciatica, pins and needles in my right thigh when walking for too long, acid reflux disease, asthma, high blood pressure and I'm also prediabetic. My weight has slowly crept up on me over the last fourteen years. I've had depression since I about 10 years old and low self esteem until I met my husband. He gave me a lot of my self confidence back, because he always loved me for me. We had our three children within two years of each other so they could grow up together and become best friends. So between the babies and the depression I never took care of myself. I didn't really care if I lived or died and the depression most of the time made me feel like a bad mother and that they would be better off without me. But I never gave up on them because they never gave up on me. In 2017 I felt the happiest I'd ever been, despite my weight. Because of that I finally decided to take care of myself and get a handle on this weight so I could live to see my grandkids someday. I chose Dr. Terry Simpson to do my surgery, he had good reviews, his location wasn't too far from me and he listed a flat self pay rate on his website which helped in the decision making. So after taking the plunge, I'm now 2 days post op and feeling better each day. I'm excited to use this new weight loss tool to get me to my goal of 180 pounds. I'm excited to see what the future has to offer with a healthier new me in tow. Updated on 22 Apr 2018: Incisions aren't painful just the area under my left rib cage is still very sore from surgery. I have intense hunger pains, probably because my stomach is still swollen. I was able to have applesauce and chicken noodle soup without the chunks yesterday.

Hoping to Be Sleeved - Scottsdale, AZ

I find Dr. Simpson and his staff to be the most non judge mental people in a Dr. Office EVER! Never less than professional. I truly believe he cares for all his patients well being. I love his witty banter. I'm always learning something new! I will have a new life next year, God willing.????. I follow his 6 month pre op requirements. It's a no pressure office. You want to do the best for you or you wouldn't be here. Kind words every visit. Eye contact which is important for me. I'm glad my Dr. Referred me to Dr. Simpson. Updated on 21 Sep 2016: I have one more appointment on Oct. 3 then they can submit it to insurance company! Getting excited. My birthday is November 1. It would make a great birthday present! Updated on 7 Oct 2016: So exciting to hear all these remarkable stories! It's very encouraging! Updated on 7 Nov 2016: I go in for my sleeve on November 15! So happy to get to this point. He is genuinely concerned about his patience. He's the best cheerleader you could have! He's on our side 100%. I'll be forever in his debt. I'm great full for his service . Updated on 18 Oct 2017: I’ve survived many stressors since hat date and I feel so much better than I could have ever hoped. My surgeon, Dr. Terry Simpson was the best thing that happened tome in 2016! I can ride my bike with ease and excited to do so. I’ve walked miles, I could have never completed a quarter mile without rest before. I haven’t been this weight since junior high. I decided to have he surgery because I have Psoriatic Arthritis, I had complications from type 2 Diabetes, thyroid condition, and was over 300 pounds. I just wanted to seize taking 27 pills every morning knowing it was just the beginning of my day. I have a new life. I thank God for Dr. Simpson and others like him DAILY! It is just amazing what is possible. Thank you Dr.Simpson for that opportunity!

LOVE THE NEW ME !! Thanks Dr Simpson !! - Scottsdale, AZ

After meeting with Dr Simpson and his staff I know beyond a doubt this is the place for me. Dr Simpson is a very caring doctor , he took all the time I needed and answered all my questions and helped me make the decision that was right for me , he is AMAZING , his patients in his lobby were so complementary of Dr Simpson and his staff. Once I was called back to do my introduction with his staff and Dr Simpson , I now know why Dr Simpson is so popular in the weigh loss field. I could not have picked a better practice , doctor , and location. I can not say enough about what it has meant to me to have such a caring supportive doctor. Thank you Dr Simpson for being my doc !

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired... - Scottsdale, AZ

I swear, after my 30th birthday my metabolism switch got flipped to the "off" position. I had given up on achieving significant weight loss. It just didn't seem possible once I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, which makes weight loss difficult. Then I was told I was pre-diabetic. That was the last straw. No way was I giving myself a shot for the rest of my life!

Love my Lap Band! Have Kept my Weight off for Years Now!

Was tired of constant Yo-Yo Diets, would take off my weight only to put it back on again. Finally had enough and went to Dr. Terry Simpson. Had my Lap Band in December of 2006 and have kept off my 50 pounds ever since! Dr. Simpson and his staff were great! They take you through every step and answer all of your questions! Best part is I can still call and ask if I want, they are just great!

Complete Disaster. Scottsdale, AZ

Not only is the staff absolutely unprofessional, disorganized, rude, and completely inept, my experience with Dr. Simpson was horrible as well. I don't even know where to start. After having surgery done with another surgeon I realized just how horrible my experience was with Dr. Simpson. Not only was his bedside manner terrible he left me in absolute agony for months following my surgery. Now knowing more about surgery I realize that he failed to take out the air used to expand my stomach during surgery. This caused me HORRIFIC pain and I couldn't lay down for several weeks and had mild issue even months after. My concerns were blown off. Now my lapband eroded into my stomach, I had to have it removed (by a much better surgeon) and the list of complications go on. I just had to have a ventral hernia repair because the lapband also eroded my abdominal wall. This is only the half of it. Literally thousands of dollars later and I have nothing to show for it. I'm completely devastated. What a disappointment this experience was. I would HIGHLY caution anyone from using this surgeon or from getting the procedure in general. Do your research. The doctor I see now told me he takes more bands out than he puts in. Updated on 29 Jan 2016: I happened to see that this doctor responded to my Google and Yelp review. I am so sad to say that the list of my issues with this provider continues. He actually had the NERVE to respond implying that I was posting these reviews in retaliation because I requested that he submit false documents to my insurance company for Lapband removal! THIS IS A COMPLETE LIE!!!!! Please think twice! Horrible service and experience from the provider and staff! Not to mention the LIES! I suspect the reason there are not many "bad" reviews is because they bully you and make extremely false statements if you tell your story. I refuse to be bullied!
