Vision was worsening with age. Qualified for upper lid under Medicare. Decided to have lower cosmetic surgery because it could be accomplished at the same time. Best decision I have made to improve my life. I can see well enough now to resume sewing and the bags of “fat” under my eyes gone. I did not experience any pain post-op. Dr Mack and staff are great. Highly recommended.

My eyelids were so droopy and my bags under my eyes so prominent that when I looked in the mirror I looked tired. Then my mind would tell me I'm tired. It was work to keep them open. The surgery was wildly successful, and I feel like a completely different person. I never had any pain and only took over the counter meds the day of surgery, then nothing required after. Hardest part was sleeping upright. Thank you, Dr. Mack and staff, for a job well done.
Awesome I can tell you from the first visit to his office the introduction from the staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable to my needs.Dr Mack presented with the best treatment in mind for my issues and did not disappoint on any level. I had a wonderful healing process that I feel was contributed to by his surgical skills and his instructions. The success of my surgery was beyond my expectations.
I had upper and lower lid surgery and was very impressed from consultation to surgery and post op follow up! Dr. Mack and his entire staff are very professional, friendly and helpful. There was such a sense of professional confidence, and calmness during and after the procedure, which was reassuring. I had no pain with the procedure or following, and the results are BEAUTIFUL! As a health care professional myself, I highly recommend Dr. Mack and his staff!
I am 52 years old and was really conscientious of my heavy upper eyelids. This is a hereditary trait but had gotten worse over the years. I consulted with Dr. Mack and knew he was well-trained. He put me at ease from the initial consultation through the post-op visits. I couldn't be more thrilled with the results. I look refreshed, which was my intended goal. Dr. Mack is a wonderful surgeon with excellent technique and a great bedside manner. I highly recommend him!
A cosmetic blepharoplasty is a rewarding surgery for patients, from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. Recovery from blepharoplasty surgery is dependent on patients following the post op protocol, which includes applying ice packs intermittently while awake for the initial 48-72 hours after surery and taking care not to lift, bend or strain for the first week. Sutures are typically removed one week after surgery. While complete eyelid healing may take months, most patients will only have evidence of mild swelling at the one week post operative visit and can typically return to work and other activities. We counsel our patients to schedule blepharoplasty surgery 3-4 weeks before major events as occasionally there may be evidence ofnoticeable swelling or bruising past the one week post op visit.
When in doubt, call your physician. All of your symptoms sound typical of day 3, and “normal” doesn’t exist as everyone reacts differently. For example, one patient may have very minimal bruising, whereas, another could have extensive bruising. Patients may experience itchiness along the suture line, but pain is not normal and this should be addressed by your surgeon to diagnose the cause. The amount of bruising and sweliing may fluctuate on a daily basis. Once your sutures are removed, you will notice the itching and burning will subside and you should notice the bruising and swelling decrease with time.
20 years old does seem young for a blepharoplasy, however, without pictures and a thorough examination, it is challenging to comment. Genetics can play a large role in the anatomy of the eyelids, especially the heaviness of the upper eyelid. If the heaviness is impairing the vision of the 20 year old, I would take her to an oculoplastic surgeon to have a complete examination. At our practice, we’re seeing an increase in patients in their 20s starting to have BOTOX injections as a preventative measure. If they are just now seeing the fine lines and wrinkles, BOTOX can relax those muscles and keep them inactive, therefore potentially limiting the creation of further wrinkles in the future.
BOTOX candidates are those who wish to soften lines and wrinkles caused from excessive muscle movements in the face. If you notice wrinkles with facial expressions, BOTOX can help to soften the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles. To determine if you are a candidate for Botox, look in the mirror and perform the following movements, smile, raise the brow and contract your eyebrows toward each other. If any of these movements bring out lines that bother you, then schedule an appointment with an experienced physician who can discuss your treatment options in detail.
It is challenging to comment without a post injection picture, but it is likely that the bag is related to the swelling and bruising from the injection with gravity causing the excess fluid to settle linferiorly in the lower eyelid region. Resolution of the lower eyelid swelling is patient dependent and can be quite variable. For your next treatment, make sure you discontinue all blood thininnig medications, including over the counter products, at least 7-10 days before the procedure and possibly use Arnica and Bromelain before and after the procedure to help decrease the risk of bruising and swelling. We also recommend the use of Ocumend arnica patches to our patients for use after injections to decrease the risks of bruising and swelling.
